Woman fined with ‘indecent exposure’ over festival outfit

A US woman has shared the “offensive” outfit she wore on a hot day that copped her a fine and could even land her in jail, sparking outrage.

A US woman has shared her outrage after she copped a fine for “indecent exposure” after wearing a pair of denim shorts and a crop top at a festival.

Casey Lacaze-Lachney attended a “family friendly” event in Winnfield, Louisiana on June 11 where she said she was slapped with a fine for indecent exposure.

She later took to TikTok, where she’s known by the username @kazzi112, to share the “offensive” outfit – declaring: “All of my bits are covered.”

In the clip, which has been viewed over 7 million times since it was posted, Casey can be seen wearing a pair of ripped denim shorts, a brown cap sleeve crop top and a black bejewelled belt, her brown hair tied back in a pony.

“Guess what. You see my outfit? I got a ticket for indecent exposure,” she begins.

“Indecent exposure?”

Casey then turns her body in front of the camera to show off her outfit, which shows off a few tattoos across her stomach and arms.

“All of my bits are covered. Are you kidding me? At a family event where there’s alcohol being literally handed out for free and three female cops came up to me and gave me a ticket.”

She went on to explain she lived locally and could have easily gone home to “put some clothes on” – but she claimed she wasn’t given the opportunity and was instead fined on the spot.

A Facebook post by the Winnfield Police Department – which did not refer to Casey by name – responded to a social media video “blasting police officers” on June 15.

“Three female officers responded to various complaints about the person’s attire and the person of interest was issued a citation under the city ordinance,” it read.

“The referenced city ordinance is 14-76, passed unanimously by then city council members on 6-14-2011 and is cited as follows:

“It shall be unlawful for any person to wear pants, trousers, shorts, skirts, dresses, or skorts in any public place or places open to the public which either intentionally exposes undergarments or intentionally exposes any portion of the pubic hair, cleft of buttocks, or genitals.”

The post by officials added that fines range from $25 ($A36) for a first offence to a maximum of $300 ($A432), and the person may be ordered to perform up to 40 hours of community service.

Casey has since shared a follow up video explaining the weather was “hot” on the day in question and she was enjoying a band performing when she was approached by police who said they were issuing her with a citation.

She claimed when she asked “why”, the police officers were “rude” and made her feel extremely “embarrassed”, adding indecent exposure is a felony offence in her state.

“Anybody who knows me knows I have never worn anything like that in public before,” she said. “I’m usually the one who covers everything – but it was hot and I felt nice – so I decided to wear it.

“The first day I wear something revealing I get cited for it. So right now I am trying to fight this because it’s bullsh*t. I want justice. I want this to be heard.”

Many TikTok users commented in support of Casey, agreeing the outfit was not “indecent”.

“I also live in Louisiana, that was a MODEST everyday summer outfit. I’m so invested,” one wrote.

“Take the outfit when you go to court. You were fully covered. Fight that all the way,” another agreed.

One said: “You gotta fight it. not just for yourself, but for every other woman that has to go through this.”

Her lawyer has since shared on Facebook he has requested body camera video of Casey’s encounter with the police but that he is still waiting for the video.
