A wild new theory about the true identity of a woman claiming to be missing child Madeleine McCann has exploded online.

Followers of the infamous case were rocked this week after a 21-year-old woman from Poland took to social media claiming she was the missing British girl.

Julia Wendell – who reportedly also goes by two other surnames, Faustyna and Wandelt – shared “evidence” online that she felt backed her astonishing theory.

These included a compelling comparison of her and Madeleine’s “similar” facial structure, along with her claim that they both have a rare eye defect.

Her theory has attracted worldwide attention, with it since being reported that Madeleine’s parents Kate and Gerry have agreed to a DNA test.

But now another bombshell theory about Julia’s true identity has sent true crime sleuths from around the world into a frenzy.

Many are now convinced that she is missing Swiss girl Livia Schepp, who disappeared along with her twin sister Alessia Schepp back in 2011, when they were six years old.

A side-by-side comparison photograph of the two has gone viral, with thousands believing that Julia looks nearly identical to Livia.

Many have agreed that Julia’s likeness to the missing Swiss girl is far more convincing than her similarities to Madeleine.

“I got super curious and went on an internet hunt, this is what I found,” one poster wrote above a composite photograph of Livia and Julia.

“Please tell me I’m not imagining this.”

People were quick to share their shock at the claim, with many agreeing that the uncanny resemblance was compelling.

“That definitely looks more like her than Maddie!” one wrote.

“This gives me chills. I wonder if it is her?”

“She looks exactly like that but obviously older,” another said.

“Wow, you might be on to something there.”

“They literally look like twins, omg.” commented one.

“Really spot on. This one deserves a DNA test.”

Madeleine McCann went missing from her bed in a holiday apartment in the Portuguese resort town Praia da Luz on the evening of May 3, 2007, while her parents were having tapas at a restaurant metres away from their villa.

She was three years old, meaning if she is alive today, she would be 19.

Twins Alessia and Livia Schepp disappeared on January 30, 2011, from the suburb of Saint-Sulpice in the city of Lausanne, Switzerland.

Their father Matthias Schepp picked up his daughters from his ex-wife’s home so they could spend the weekend together, but the girls were never returned.

Their mother Irina Lucidi Schepp reported her concerns to the police, which instigated a wide-scale hunt that expanded across Switzerland, France and Italy.

A few days later on the morning of February 3rd, 2011, their father Matthias was spotted by some locals in Naples, Italy.

That night, his body was recovered by police after it was discovered that he had taken his own life.

The girls have never been found.

While the most widely-accepted theory is that Matthias killed Alessia and Livia, their bodies have never been discovered.

The twins are still classed as missing and their case remains unsolved.

If still alive today, the pair would be turning 19 years old in October.

Julia told followers she’s not looking for viral fame and “truly believes” she is missing Maddie, even asking her parents for proof of her birth and contacting police.

“Police investigators from UK and Poland try to ignore me. I will tell my story in posts here. Help me,” she wrote on Instagram.

“I have asked for pictures of when my mum was pregnant with me, other medical records and any pictures from my childhood and she never shows them, she just always tells me I’m crazy.

“My schoolteacher when I was very young said that I wasn’t there from the start but my parents insist I was.

“After all this confusion I began to do my own research I discovered what had happened to Madeleine McCann and started to piece together the similarities we shared.

“It has been so stressful trying to get people to listen to me.”

Kate and Gerry, now both 54, recently pledged to “never give up” their quest to find their missing daughter – adding they were entering their 16th year without her with “continued determination and positivity”.

The couple also have 17-year-old twins Sean and Amelie. It’s estimated the probe for Maddie has cost £13 million (approximately $23 million) to date.
