Video shows Woolworths customer allegedly attacking staff in Darwin
A Woolworths customer has been escorted from the store by security after she allegedly verbally abused and lunged at staff members.
A woman has been restrained and led out of a supermarket by security after allegedly verbally abusing and lunging at staff.
In a clip posted to Facebook by the Mango Inquirer, a Woolworths store supervisor attempted to hold back a customer as she yelled at another staff member.
The video was filmed by another customer at the Hibiscus Woolworths in Leanyer, Darwin, on Saturday.
“Don’t attack my staff,” the supervising staff member pleaded with the woman, as the customer allegedly attempted to push past the hold she had on her.
The woman allegedly made more threats before another customer stepped in and attempted to restrain the woman.
“Get off me, you gronk,” the woman yelled.
Security quickly intervened, escorting the customer from the store.
“Don’t come back,” the supervisor said.
“You do this every time.”
The security guard can be heard repeatedly telling the customer to calm down as they stood outside the store, before he escorts her out of the shopping precinct.
news.com.au understands the alleged incident has been reported to police, who have the power to ban customers from returning to the supermarket.
A Woolworths spokesman told news.com.au that staff should not be objected to abuse when doing their job.
“There is no place for this kind of abusive behaviour anywhere in our community,” the spokesman said.
“Our team members do the very best they can to help customers, and deserve to be treated with respect on the job.
“We don’t tolerate abuse in any circumstance and have taken steps to ban the customer from returning to the store.”
Many social medial users congratulated the staff for standing up for themselves, with one online commenter saying “good on” the manager.
Others said they hoped the staff were getting help after the alleged incident.
But, others have insisted that the staff members shouldn’t have restrained the woman.
“At the end of the day, regardless of what the customers have done – Woolworths staff shouldn’t be taking matters into their own hands and instead leaving it for the police,” one person said.
