US woman roasted for suggesting Aussies exaggerate their accents
An American woman’s TikTok has gone viral for all the wrong reasons after triggering Aussies with her accent suggestion.
A woman has been called out online after suggesting Aussies put on their accents for attention.
Tay Honey, from the US, shared a now viral TikTok asking her followers if “anyone else feels Australians might be exaggerating their accents a little bit”.
Needless to say it didn’t go down too well, with hundreds of Aussies, including Tasmanian comedian Jane Hamilton-Foster roasting the woman.
“G’day love, Australian here, we have all got accents don’t we. Yours is pretty f***ing strong,” she said, adding, “Good on ya.”
Jane’s video also got the support of her followers.
“Exactly what kind of question even was that?” one person asked.
“Different parts of Australia is stronger as well but we’ve all got one,” another added.
A third joked: “Damn, she caught us out on our secret.”
Some shared the hashtag ‘leaveAussiesalone’.
“Love how Americans don’t think they have any accents,” one man laughed in the comments section.
While a voice coach also joked: “’We’ve all got accents’ is something I say at least once a day.”
However, not all were against the American’s suggestion.
“I don’t speak like this Aussie here, not many do,” one woman wrote.
“I’m an Aussie, and YES, 100 per cent … when Aussies are put on the spot … they definitely exaggerate their accents,” another claimed.
Tay’s clip has been doing the rounds on TikTok with one Aussie man – who describes himself as “your average bloke from Down Under” – giving what appears to be a sarcastic response.
“Yeah, I think we exaggerate a little bit, you know, we just put it on for show. Um, but yeah, yeah, you know, it’s a nice way to talk.”
His clip has been viewed more than 327,000 times.
“Not her dragging her words out for no reason and then saying we over exaggerate,” one woman pointed out.
“It will forever annoy me the way Americans think they don’t have accents,” another TikTok user added.
One Aussie admitted that when she talks to Americans, she makes her “accent stronger”.
“I throw all the slang in to confuse f**k out of ’em,” another replied.
