Two cashiers fall asleep in the middle of a sale

A CUSTOMER being served by two cashiers captured the moment both appeared to fall asleep in the middle of scanning grocery items.

'Drugged cashiers' fall asleep on the checkout while serving a customer

THIS is the moment two cashiers fall into what appears to be in a zonked-out stupor in the middle of checking out.

In a clip called America’s Opioid Epidemic uploaded on Saturday, a shocked shopper records the spectacle, The Sun reported.

In the video the two shop workers both appear to be finding it hard to stay awake.

One has her head tilted back with her mouth hanging open while the other is slumped forward.

Another woman is heard calling “hello!” which seems to stir them awake.

One of the cashiers struggles with a scanner while her colleague starts to bag the items, only managing to put one bottle of soda in the bag before stopping.

The woman attempting to scan the items seems to notice that she is having problems and encourages her to continue.

The cashier in the black shirt says “I’m trying” to which her co-worker replies “you’re trying?”

It is unclear from the video, which the Mail Onlinereports was filmed in a petrol station in Sonoma County in California, whether the workers are actually on drugs.

This footage comes in the wake of a confronting video released last year of a couple overdosing on the street in broad daylight.

Hundreds of thousands of viewers saw Ronald Hiers and his wife Carla after a heroin overdose in October 2016, when a man broadcast a video via Facebook Live of the couple slumped on the ground in Memphis, Tennessee, in America’s southwest.

The couple have since spoken out, saying the shocking footage of their zombie-like state was a turning point in their lives.

In a documentary by Time and Mic, the pair say they have been sober ever since the incident and have not seen each other.

“Drugs and alcohol will take you to place you can’t imagine,” Mr Hiers said.

“When I’d seen Carla, that’s when my heart poured out for her because she was in a bad way. It really hurt, because she was in public and she was being publicly humiliated.”

The latest video comes at a time when the US is in the grip of an opioid epidemic.

Every day more than 90 Americans die from overdose. In America, while the problem is widespread, Ohio has been especially hard hit, with fentanyl overdoses up around twofold to 1,155 last year.

There, medics are used to confronting scenes. Some paramedics have begun carrying double the amount of Narcan, a medication that blocks the effects of opioids. They’ve also started placed wheelchairs near their entrances to hospitals.
