TikTok video reveals we’ve all been filling ice cube trays wrong
It’s a chore many of us do at least once a week — but chances are you didn’t know there was a much easier way to fill an ice cube tray.
We’ve all suffered the indignity that is filling up your ice cube tray, only to have water splash back up in your face.
It’s messy and particularly inconvenient if the point of replenishing your ice cubes is because you have guests over and you end up covered in water.
Well, fear not as one TikTok user has revealed the right way to fill up your ice cube tray — and it definitely falls in the ‘how the hell did I not know this before’ basket.
In a video that’s been shared 4.3 million times TikTok user @4jmjcbitxh posed the question: “Am I just dumb or did nobody else know this either?”

The woman then showed how the middle section of the ice cube tray wasn’t a pretty design flare — it also served a very important purpose.
“These little flat spots on ice cube trays are where you’re supposed to fill in the water,” she explained, showing how water flowed easily into neighbouring ice cubes sections.
“So it just goes in so nicely to all four.”
The video soon got thousands of comments, with many people pointing out that they too were just as stunned by the discovery.
“What da heck?! This is revolutionary,” one person wrote, while another added:
“I was today years old when I learned this.”

“I pay $30k a year for college. Yet I learn so much more from TikTok,” one commented.
But not everyone was convinced that the hack was the ‘real’ way an ice cube tray was supposed to be filled.
“No it’s to stack more trays on top of each other,” one said, while another people agreed and added: “I thought it was to stack them or does my brain not work.”
Meanwhile others pointed out there was another easy way to fill up your ice tray.
“Hold it at an angle pointing downward and fill it from the top then it’s like a water fall and fills up in like 5 seconds,” one person wrote.

“I just fill one in til it fills all of them,” another person added.
It’s not the only interesting household hack that’s been shared on the video website recently, with TikTok proving itself to have a wealth of helpful home info.
TikTok account @mama_mila_ shares home tips and tricks through her page and uploaded a video on how to clean the microwave using dishwasher detergent.
The Aussie mum shared that all you had to do was add one teaspoon of dishwashing detergent to one cup of water.
You then place the mixture inside and microwave on high for four minutes, during which time it “softens all the stubborn, baked on food and makes it very easy to clean”.
After leaving the microwave to sit for a further four minutes with the door closed, it’s time to clean away the food scum – but no scrubbing is needed.
