Three alleged assault victims launch civil claim against Andrew Tate

'There is no evidence against me' – Tate brothers brought in for further questioning

Three women are pursuing a civil claim against self-described misogynist Andrew Tate, on allegations of physical and sexual assault — claims he “vehemently denies”.

According to The Guardian, the primary aim of the lawsuit, per law firm McCue Jury & Partners, is to seek “justice, accountability, and compensation for Tate’s victims” and to encourage “a UK criminal investigation into Tate’s crimes in the hope of his prosecution and conviction in the UK, in addition to the charges he is facing in Romania”.

Tate, a British-US citizen, his brother Tristan and two Romanian women, is currently facing charges of rape, people trafficking and organised crime in the European nation. The group have denied all charges, and the 36-year-old was released into house arrest last Friday.

The three women pursuing the civil proceedings, now in their late 20s and early 30s, allege the offences took place between 2013 and 2016, when Tate lived in the UK.

The specific claims in the civil case relate to personal injury and psychiatric harm as a result of alleged violent physical and sexual assault, as well as coercive control.

A spokesperson for Tate told The Guardian he “vehemently denies” the allegations.

“We are concerned that the intention of suing was first communicated to the mainstream press and not to Andrew Tate or his legal team,” the spokesperson said.

“Andrew Tate vehemently denies these allegations, which he was completely unaware of until today, and is saddened that the press chooses to act as a facilitator for opportunistic attempts by women for monetary gain.”

Lawyers for the women hope the proceedings will “help put an end to Tate’s manipulation of boys and disillusioned young men by showing them that his actions have consequences”.

“We are honoured to have been entrusted with this important case. Our clients’ bravery in coming forward to tell their stories and hold Tate to account is remarkable, and they hope it will empower other victims and survivors to come forward and join them,” McCue Jury & Partners managing partner, Matthew Jury, said.

“Perhaps focusing on the victims’ stories, rather than Tate’s misogynistic rants, will also mean his followers will come to understand his true nature. That rather than being a champion of masculinity, he is simply an exploitative coward who likes to hurt women.”

The dangerous ideology of misogynistic rape culture that Tate spreads, and the parroting of these views by teenagers both in the UK and at home, has been of increased concern in recent months.

A survey from The Man Cave, a preventive mental health program that aims to teach young boys about healthy masculinity, in January found that a third of Australian boys admired Tate, while 36 per cent found him relatable.

“We see boys are desperate for positive stories around masculinity,” a spokesperson for the organisation told news.com.au at the time.

“They want confident, positive expressions of what it means to be a man. And because there aren’t many examples of this in the modern context right now, they are latching onto other influencers with more outdated views.”

Tate appeals to young men “because the things he says are ‘edgy', which aligns with boys’ resistance to authority and media narratives”, The Man Cave spokesperson continued.

“He also appears to ‘have’ what boys have been trained to think they ‘want’ – looks, ripped body, fast cars, boats, women, fame, virility.

“The popularity of men like Tate reinforces the need for preventive, early intervention services which provide teenage boys with impressive, inspirational programs, healthy male role models and resources.

“If we want to help steer boys away from role models like Tate, telling them off won’t work. We need to allow boys to express themselves and explore how such views can be harmful.”
