The next generation of Aussie WAGs have arrived

There’s a new woman taking the WAG world by storm - and she’s set to be the next Bec Judd.

The wives and girlfriends of famous Aussie sporting stars have always been a spectacle within themselves, and now a whole new generation has arrived.

Bec Judd, Nadia Bartel, Phoebe Burgess and even Bec Hewitt are women who have married famous Aussie athletes and have ultimately become more prominent than their hand eye co-ordinated partners.

These Millennial WAGs have become household names and fashion icons and have now firmly crossed over from sports to pop culture.

So who is next?

Judd can’t carry the WAG load all on her own active wear-covered shoulders; thankfully, Generation Z has firmly stepped onto the sporting scene and we can’t ignore them.

Kaylah Collins, 26, married Sydney Rooster’s NRL player Lindsay Collins in 2022 and the two are a power couple.

Lindsay is most well-known for missing a front tooth and being a vital member of the Roosters.

Kaylah has all her teeth and you might remember her black see-through look from The Dally M Awards - it stole the show.

She works in PR, met Lindsay in high school, and the pair have been together ever since; she’s only ever known the experience of being a WAG.

The PR Maven is quick to point out that, while her identity might be lumped in with dating a famous athlete, she thinks being “independent” is the only way to thrive and survive dating a football player.

Kaylah explains that every WAG she knows has their “own” life and, while she thinks dating a famous athlete does require you to be supportive, she’d never do it to her own “detriment.”

“You have to be very independent to be with them,” she told news.com.au.

Being independent also means being secure within the relationship.

Kaylah understands there’s always noise around unfaithful football players, but she brushes that off as a few “bad eggs” and instead says she can only focus on her own relationship.

“The thing is, I know my relationship, I know my husband,” she explains.

The Sydney local reveals that, while there are outdated stereotypes of WAGs just living and breathing for their partner, it’s not something she’s seen first-hand.

“I don’t know anyone that sits at home and lives off their partner,” she says.

Plus, she’s quick to point out that wouldn’t exactly be a fulfilling choice for any young woman.

“How boring would it be? Waiting for something exciting to happen to them?”

Interestingly, despite dating one of Australia’s most famous players, Kaylah’s not interested in football.

“I like watching Lindsay play,” she clarifies. Yet you wouldn’t catch her at home glued to the screen watching a football game he wasn’t playing in.

Kaylah makes it clear that her life doesn’t revolve around her partner. Sure, she wants to be there for him, but at the end of the day the only thing his career dictates is what they have for dinner.

“If it is a day before a game, it’s steak. If it is two days before a game, its pasta,” she says.

Kaylah isn’t the only fresh-faced WAG not letting her relationship define her.

Media personality Dee Salmin is dating AFL’s Collingwood captain Darcy Moore, and their relationship is the least interesting thing about her.

Salmin is a co-host of Triple J’s relationship radio show The Hook-Up, where people call in with their most juicy, ridiculous and sometimes gross relationship stories.

She’s becoming a certified ‘it’ girl known for her bleached blonde hair and good humoured hosting style, amassing over 10,000 followers on Instagram.

Plus she’s nailed that whole Generation Z fashion vibe.

She wears small tops paired with giant pants, has the shaggy but styled haircut and gives off effortless cool girl vibes.

Her look is definitely not Bec Judd glamour and more quirky Inner West girl.

While she doesn’t post heaps about her relationship online, she did attend The Brownlow with Darcy and she posted to celebrate Collingwood winning the grand finale against Carlton.

“Pretty low-key weekend,” she wrote.

Another Gen Z Wag we need to discuss is Tegan Fairleigh. She’s dating an NRL Panthers player, Daine Laurie.

Tegan has gone the traditional WAG route and is a bona fide influencer with over 50,000 followers on Instagram and over a million likes on TikTok.

She posts photos of her in bikinis and fun outfits and shares codes from brands so her fans can get a discount.

Tegan also isn’t shy about her relationship with Daine; she’ll post TikToks of the two of them ice skating together or just hanging out, and she attended the Daly M alongside him.

Plus, she even has an album saved on her Instagram that just features photos and videos of the pair together.

Tegan’s also savvy and joined the App FanFix where fans can pay $6 dollars monthly to get exclusive content from her.

A whole new generation of WAGs has arrived and it is already clear they’ll be just as powerful as the generation before them.
