REMEMBER the chicken nugget guy?

Carter Wilkinson, a 16-year-old from Nevada, tweeted American fast food chain Wendy’s to ask how he could get a year’s supply of free food.

His campaign started as a bit of a joke, and the entire thing was based on a simple post that said “HELP ME PLEASE. A MAN NEEDS HIS NUGGS”.

With no further ado, the hashtag #NuggsForCarter was born.

He’s now he smashed an internet record for the most retweeted post of all time, after Wendy’s told him they’d consider his request if he got 18 million retweets.

Twitter confirmed the figure to the Associated Press overnight, which just goes to show there’s nothing quite like food as an incentive to motivate a teenage boy.

Carter took the title after beating the star-studded selfie posted by comedian Ellen DeGeneres at the 2014 Oscars, which had 3.4 million retweets.

She was so impressed at his endeavour she invited him onto her show last month, giving him a year’s worth of Ellen-branded underwear and a television.

However, she warned him he’d have to give it all back if he passed her — and now she’s jokingly threatened to send actor Bradley Cooper, who took the famous image, to Carter’s house to reclaim the gifts.

Anyone who can count will notice 3.5 million, while impressive, is well short of the 18 million retweets Carter promised to deliver.

Considering his is the world’s most retweeted tweet at 3.5 million, Ellen DeGeneres is next at 3.4 million, and Harry Styles comes in third at 2.4 million, it’s a stratospheric ambition — but that hasn’t stopped him from chipping away at it.

In the meantime, the restaurant decided this achievement was close enough to his original goal to come through with the goods, promising him more free nuggets than he can eat with a simple tweet that said “consider it done”.
