A US teacher has allegedly been caught making shocking comments about one of her black students after she forgot to hang up a Zoom call.

A US teacher has been allegedly caught making shocking comments about one of her black students after she forgot to hang up a Zoom call with his mother.

In the video, obtained by The Orange County Register (OCR), the teacher could be heard claiming that black people lie and fail to take accountability for their actions.

The call took place on January 20, after the boy’s mother, Katura Stokes, reached out to his school for help because he was struggling to adjust to online learning.

The teacher then contacted Ms Stokes and the boy via a Zoom call to assist, however, she failed to exit the call and was heard in a racist, inflammatory rant for more than 30 minutes, Ms Stokes alleges.

In the video recording of the call, the teacher tells another person — purportedly her husband — that she believes Ms Stokes had been avoiding making contact with the school and actually had no interest in helping her son with his classwork.

“She (Stokes) answered her phone for the first time the entire year. I mean, these parents, that’s what kind of pieces of s**t they are. They’re black. She’s black. They’re a black family.”

She then alleges that the Year 6 student ”learned to lie and make excuses that nothing is his fault”.

“This what black people do,” the teacher was heard saying.

“White people do it too, but black people do it way more.”

Ms Stokes could be heard saying “are you serious … this is crazy, this is crazy.”

The teacher has since stood down from her role, according to the OCR.

“Palmdale School District has never and will never tolerate any racist behaviour or speech,” the District said in a statement to Fox11.

Ms Stokes said she recorded the computer screen because she could not believe what she was hearing, adding that if she hadn’t, no one would believe the comments were so outrageous, the publication stated.

Ms Stokes has since filed a damage claim against the school district with the case likely to turn into a law suit.

Ms Stokes’ lawyer John Taylor described the remarks as “horrible” and “heartbreaking”.

“The horrible comments the teacher made in the video are truly heartbreaking for a mother to hear and for her young son to hear,” he told the OCR.

“It’s unthinkable that an educator would mock and belittle this family, and there is no doubt that this incident has scarred them.

“All children are entitled to receive an educational experience free of discrimination, and this video has demonstrated what minority students often face behind the scenes today.”
