Tammy Hembrow is getting slammed online for a ridiculous reason

An influencer’s post on social media that usually would be met with compliments has triggered women for a wild reason

Tammy Hembrow engaged to Matt Zukowski

Women are being triggered by the fact that Tammy Hembrow has become engaged for the third time and it has unearthed an exhausting double standard.

This week, she announced that third time was the charm, and she was engaged to influencer Matt Zukowski, and the joyful news overwhelming triggered judgement instead of celebration.

“Never in my life have I felt so safe, so loved, so understood, so cared for. What a plot twist you were,” Hembrow wrote when announcing her engagement.

Hembrow, 29, has three children; she shares her two eldest kids with her ex, Reece Hawkins and her youngest child, Posy, born in 2022 with her ex, Matt Poole. The fitness icon was engaged to both the men she shares children with, and most recently, she called off her engagement with Poole in December 2022.

Yet the real twist in their engagement news seems to be the misogyny it has brought out in other women and the same “impossible standard” stick that we beat women with.

The comment section can be divided into three sections: there are the women who are slamming Hembrow for having a new partner.

They are making jokes at Hembrow’s expense, like that she changes her man faster than her underwear, or joking she’s like that Marvel character that needs to collect all the rings. They probably meant Lord of The Rings character, but the jab is still pretty easy to understand.

Someone commented that it was an “insane” decision, and others just joked that they wanted Hembrow to explain how she managed to land so many men.

The second tier of comments is where people are suggesting that Hembrow’s engagement somehow proves she’s a bad mum.

They don’t have any facts to back up these judgements but instead have just decided to spew this on her good news post.

Some of the stuff is too upsetting to repeat, but there’s comments questioning if Hembrow knows if this is a “safe” decision for her children other people are saying this news makes them feel sorry for her children, and one simply wrote “poor kids”.

The implication is pretty clear the fact she’s found love again and somehow that means she’s doing a disservice to her own children.

The third category of comments is just women asking other women why they have such a problem with Hembrow moving on.

One person pointed out that it’s a positive message to send to “move on” from relationships that aren’t working for you, and that is likely what is best for her kids.

“Let the woman be! Congrats,” another praised.

Somehow, the post that was meant to be a celebration of love has turned into a debate on what women can and can’t do without becoming bad mums or earning a reputation as a man-eater.

It is exhausting to read as an onlooker, so who knows how Hembrow is able to digest and swallow the onslaught, but probably not without some indigestion.

The comment section became such a bloodbath that fellow influencer Olivia Molly Rogers jumped in to defend the fitness influencer.

“All the women on here judging Tammy need to get a grip. Let her be happy! Stop and think about why it triggers you so much and take some time to work on yourself, rather than commenting nasty, judgmental comments,” she advised.

So why did an engagement post trigger such a mammoth reaction? Sure, Hembrow’s a public person, and her engagement would always create noise … but why this noise?

Psychologist Carly Dober said the comments underneath Hembrow’s posts have “misogynistic undertones”, and we need to accept that women should be allowed to move on from relationships.

“Not all relationships last or are meant to last; it doesn’t mean they weren’t good or successful. It can be difficult enough to sit with a relationship that hasn’t worked the way you like it too, without Judgement,” she pointed out.

Dober also said any judgements made Hembrow’s inability to parent mostly stem from other people’s values that shouldn’t be used against people.

“Her motherhood capabilities and her relationship with her children can be separate from the relationship she has with other people, and we as a general public do not know how she integrates people into her children’s lives,” she said.

Dober advised that we need to be “mindful” when making claims about how women mother and what makes someone a good or bad parent.

“We should be mindful not to project our own views that might have been inherited from our parents or our culture and be open to the way other people live their lives,” she said.
