‘Sordid’ new details of teacher’s alleged abuse of 15-year-old student emerge
New details have emerged in the shocking case of a married teacher accused of raping a 15-year-old student.
New details have emerged in the shocking case of a married American teacher who has been accused of “raping” a 15-year-old student.
Christina Formella, a 30-year-old special education teacher and soccer coach at Downers Grove South High School in Chicago, was charged last month after the boy’s mother reported alleged sexual contact between the pair to police.
The teacher now faces two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and one count of criminal sexual assault against a minor, according to local outlets.
But new court documents have given further insight into the horrifying accusations, claiming the young educator initially began messaging the boy on a digital school platform – which quickly escalated into “flirty texts” and eventually a sexual encounter during a tutoring session in a classroom.
Formella first met the student in 2023 when she was his first-year soccer coach but then began tutoring the boy in private sessions after he broke his collarbone, documents obtained by TMZ allege.
The pair then began messaging each other on a school platform, which prosecutors claim enabled Formella to give the boy her number so they could play “8-Ball Pool” on their phones.
This contact then allegedly progressed to provocative texts, followed by a FaceTime meeting between the student and Formella.
But it was in a classroom before school started in December of that year that the situation allegedly worsened.
According to TMZ, the court documents claim Formella shut the door of the classroom and started kissing the victim, who reportedly fondled her, and she removed his clothes.
They both allegedly took off her leggings, and he put on a condom and had sex with Formella. He was 15 and she was 28 at the time, prosecutors allege.
Text messages between them show they allegedly later acknowledged to each other what they did was “wrong”, and never had sex again, with contact ending between them in February 2024.
The details, described as “sordid” by one US publication, comes after dramatic bodycam footage was released that shows the moment Formella became aware she was the subject of police investigation.
In the clip, the teacher can be seen being approached by officers as she sat in her car next to her husband Michael.
Initially, she appears confused as an officer walks up to her window, instructing her to get out of the vehicle.
Formella, who is dressed in a baggy hoodie and blue jeans, is then placed into handcuffs before the video cuts to her inside the cop car.
“Am I in trouble?” she asks police. “I’m so scared right now.”
The video then cuts to show the accused teacher being placed back into the vehicle following her interview with police where she subsequently learnt of her charges.
Formella can be heard repeating, “oh my God, oh my God’, to herself as she wept from the back seat of the police car.
Alleged ‘lurid’ texts emerge
The video comes after court records were released that allegedly revealed text messages Formella had sent the 15-year-old.
One read, “I love having sex with you”, as others contained “lurid lines” she reportedly sent the boy, the New York Post reported.
“I love you so so much mama,” the boy sent Formella in one text.
“I love you sooooo much baby … Even though this morning was short, it was perfect,” the teacher, then 28, allegedly responded.
“I know baby it was perfect baby so perfect,” the boy replied back, before Formella opined about how much she loved having sex with him.
“I know baby I love it so much … It feels so good … It’s so passionate … It’s so intimate … It’s so perfect,” the boy said.
Police have submitted the messages as evidence in the case against Formella that suggests she engaged in an inappropriate relationship with her student.
The court documents allege she molested the boy two years ago during a protracted assault that allegedly began during a classroom tutoring session in December 2023 and continued until the boy eventually ended it.
After police arrested Formella, they allegedly found writings in her phone’s Notes app that further suggested a sexual relationship with her underage student, the court documents showed.
‘Framed for being good looking’
But Formella claimed the material in that app was just an “outlet for her anxiety,” and that any sexual material was only about her husband.
The now-former teacher has denied the allegations, instead insisting she’s the victim of a frame job and “blackmail” from the boy she tutored and coached — and that people are targeting her because she’s “good-looking”.
“She claimed that one day, [the boy] had grabbed her phone unattended, had entered her passcode … had sent the message to his phone, had then deleted the message from her phone, and had saved it to his phone as blackmail,” court documents read.
“[Formella said] everybody comes after her because she is good looking and she is just a good person who cared too much about [the boy],” the documents stated.
The text messages were found after the boy’s mother bought him a new phone. As they were setting it up, she logged into his iCloud account and discovered them.
She took her son to the a local police station the same day and they reported the alleged abuse.
Formella was charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and one count of criminal sexual assault, and was released on the condition that she not enter the school grounds or have contact with anybody under 18.
Formella and her husband had a lavish destination wedding in Italy’s Amalfi Coast last year, just nine months before the charges were laid.
Photos on social media show the college sweethearts smiling and sharing a kiss following the Amalfi Coast nuptials.
She and her husband were student athletes together at Concordia University.
Formella began teaching at Downers Grove High in 2020 after earning her teaching license in 2017. She has since been placed on paid leave from her job.
