‘So extra’: Popular delivery trend slammed

A kind-hearted food delivery trend has kicked off in the US, but it seems not everyone is sold on the gesture, with some calling it “weird”.

Americans are often out there doing the most when it comes to hospitality, and it appears that is no different with how they treat their delivery drivers.

An image shared to Reddit showed the “delivery driver motherload”, which features a table filled with snacks such as Jack Links Beef Tender Bites, Snickers, Ritzs, and drinks such as Prime, Dr Pepper and bottled water. There are also tissues, hand sanitiser and hand warmers.

“To all delivery drivers and service providers. Please help yourself to some snacks, drinks and goodies. Thank you for all you do,” reads a note attached to the snack table.

Many social media users were divided. Some praised it, saying it was a “very nice” gesture from the homeowner. But, others called it “weird” and warned that taking from the cart could mean a tip being slashed.

“Tell me you get a ton of deliveries with out telling me you get a ton of deliveries. Also very nice of them,” one wrote.

Another said: “That’s a bigger flex than anything imo! Feeding people! That’s a power move.”

“Holy sh*t. Imagine what their personal fridge and pantry looks like. I don’t even have that much food at my house tbh lol,” another added.

One said: “This person really doesn’t want his/her food stolen.”

“OMG!!!! Where is this? Freaking awesome! Hopefully, they are also good tippers as well,” one commented.

Another commented: “Dude, they even have hot hands?! That is so kind.”

But, others saw a more sinister side to the act, with one saying when they delivered food they “never” touched the carts.

“I never touch them, people are f***ing weird. I’ve seen one too many post about drivers getting their tip withdrawn because they took from these and it wasn’t meant for them but ‘real delivery drivers’ like Amazon,” one said.

Another commented: “This sh*t is getting kind of dystopian tbh.”

“This is sooooooooooooooooo extra,” another social media user posted.

One said: “I have been to enough hotels with minibars that I wouldn’t touch a one of them.”

“America is a weird place, this would NEVER happen in England,” another said.

Carts stacked with drinks and snacks isn’t an unusual sight in the United States, with a whole TikTok tag dedicated to restocking them.

Kouvr Annon, who rose to fame in the Hype House, shared a video of herself restocking her delivery cart over Christmas.

“Christmas time is coming up, which means we get so many deliveries,” Kouvr, who married musician Alex Warren in 2024, said.

The 24-year-old showed her delivery driver cart and called it “embarrassing” as it was mostly empty, saying she was going to “fix it” as she appreciated the delivery drivers’ work.

Vidya, who goes by @queencitytrends on TikTok, shared a similar video of herself restocking her cart. But, she went the extra mile and included boxes with gift cards to Panera and Dairy Queen, as well as chapstick, hand sanitiser, a fragrance and phone chargers.

Meanwhile, Matt Kolb shared a video after his “kind” girlfriend Kayleigh bought a mini fridge to keep drinks and chocolate cool, while also having a cart filled with chips and biscuits.

The couple shared delivery driver’s responses to the thoughtful act, with one saying: “Y’all are great people.”

“Damn, appreciate y’all big time,” the man added.
