Simone Callahan reveals ‘heartbreaking’ moment she discovered Shane Warne’s cheating
Simone Callahan has recalled the devastating moment she discovered her ex-husband Shane Warne’s multiple infidelities.
Simone Callahan has recalled the “heartbreaking” moment she discovered Shane Warne had cheated on her after flying to England with their three children to be by his side.
Callahan was married to the legendary spin bowler in 1995, with the couple welcoming children Jackson, Brooke and Summer before divorcing in 2005.
The former couple discuss their marriage breakdown in new documentary Shane, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video on Tuesday after screening in cinemas earlier this month.
Callahan reveals how in 2005 they were “going to set up a life in England” where Warne was playing in the Ashes series, only for a media storm to erupt as she arrived.
Numerous newspaper reports revealed Warne had been unfaithful with multiple women, leaving Callahan devastated.
“My life was pretty much turned on its head,” she said. “It wasn’t even a two-week turnaround before I came back to Australia.”
Daughter Brooke said the incident was “the first time I had seen dad in a bad light”, describing the high profile scandal as “horrible”.
“(It was) like my whole image of him had been broken.” she tearfully recalled.
Warne was left alone in England, describing it as the “lowest” point of his life.
“The impact on my children, they wouldn’t get to see me and that was my fault,” he said.
“I would go back and raid the mini bar. I was on my own on the hotel room floor, crying ‘you d**khead’.”
Despite the turmoil in his personal life, Warne still managed to perform incredibly during the 2005 Ashes. He took a staggering 40 wickets in five Tests and scored 249 runs.
Earlier this month Warne spoke about his divorce from Callahan during a raw segment on live TV during a rain delay on day five of the fourth Ashes Test in Sydney
“Getting divorced was a difficult time in my life and for my children – and it was my fault,’’ Warne said on Fox Cricket’s broadcast.
“So I have to live with that for the rest of my life so it wasn’t easy.
“A week before the Ashes series to do that, and then have to drag myself off the canvas and get out there and play in 2005, play against a quality England side … to have the Barmy Army for six hours a day, not just 10 minutes, singing songs, singing ‘Where’s your missus gone?’”
Warne said he was “devastated” that his infidelities had led to him not being able to see his children for three months.
He was later involved in a high-profile relationship with British actress Liz Hurley between 2011-2013. He even proposed to her but they broke up before making it down the aisle.
