Shopper’s hand sliced open by razor blade glued to trolley
A woman was left in shock after she grabbed the handles of a shopping trolley, not realising it had been altered to inflict harm.
It’s not what you’d expect to find at the grocery store.
But a woman from the US claims she was left “dripping with blood” when her hand was sliced as she grabbed a shopping trolley that had been deliberately altered to hide a razor.
Silver Taylor was shopping at the discount supermarket chain Walmart in the US when the painful incident took place, The Sun reports.
She was unaware the trolley had a razor blade hidden on its handle.
Ms Taylor is now asking the retail giant to pay her compensation – and to apologise – after she suffered several deep cuts to her right hand and a further laceration to her left hand.
Ms Taylor told CBS Austin that she was in the Walmart shop on November 13 when two customers queuing in front of her suddenly told her that her hands were bleeding.
She checked, and “sure enough, I was just dripping blood”.
Her lawyer, Brad Wurster, told the broadcaster she fainted and struck her head because of the loss of blood.
Paramedics called to the scene at 11am took photos of the razor blade shoved inside the trolley handle – facing inward towards the shopping cart and out of Ms Taylor’s view.
Ms Taylor was taken to a nearby hospital where her wounds were heavily bandaged.
The mother stressed she was “thankful” that she got hurt instead of a child or her sons.
As she takes blood thinners to treat a medical condition, Ms Taylor said she was aware the cuts could take longer to heal, as the hand wounds were likely to reopen.
Although it’s not known who inserted the blade in the trolley, Ms Taylor believes Walmart has an “obligation to look at their carts” to see if they have “a hazard”.
Ms Taylor said the presence of the blade made her “sad we have to live in a world like (this)”.
Walmart has received a legal notice from Wurster on her behalf.
CBS said it had contacted Walmart for a response on the injury.
No one has been arrested in connection with the incident.
