Problem with reaction to married woman fury at tradie’s note
A woman went viral after she said an electrician working at her husband’s store repeatedly hit on her. But, the reaction has been problematic.

“Smile politely and say thank you for the interest.”
That’s a message that is being pushed after a woman revealed the inappropriate note she was handed by a tradie at her husband’s business.
Earlier this week, Maceon McCracken went viral on TikTok for detailing her story after she was approached by a worker at her husband’s furniture store.
In short, an electrician came in to install some fans and began to hit on the real estate agent, leaving her a note stuffed in a couch saying he understood she was married but to contact him if she wanted some “fun”.
He entered the back office where she was working twice while she was in there alone, so she was forced to sit in the showroom with her father-in-law until the man finished his work.
Thousands of women came out to support Maceon, calling the man’s act “audacious” and sharing their own experiences of similar situations.
But many men came out in full force to say the North Carolina woman was overreacting. Instead, she “led him on” by not shutting him down immediately and should have also been “thankful for the compliment”.
“The guy just fell madly in love with you at first sight. Stop making fun of him,” one person commented on the video.
Another said: “Bullsh*t. You loved that note, and all the action. Doesn’t mean you’ll cheat. But you loved it.”
“Why is it so hard for you to just thank him and tell him you’re not interested and he better return to his job. Short and sweet,” another added.
Another said if she was single she would have been flattered.
The anger that bubbles among these men is significant, and it’s the reason why so many women claim to be in a relationship when they’re single and simply not interested.
Women are terrified of the consequences of being honest.
A quote comes to mind: “Women are terrified of men while men’s biggest fear is rejection from a woman”.
Why do men think that women are simply there for their enjoyment, that we should be honoured for them to be gracing us with their affection?
Why do they think talking to a woman they don’t know and expecting her to swoon over their comments after five seconds of conversation is normal?
A simple act of kindness from a woman does not mean she is flirting. But, for some reason, that is what it opens them up to.
Ask any woman who has been a hospitality worker and they will tell you at some point their professionalism has been mistaken for flirting.
It points to a wider problem in society that seems almost unfixable. It makes you want to lose hope that there will be men who don’t take advantage when you’re trapped in a professional situation with them.
Maceon said the sheer number of people in her comments saying she should have accepted the compliment was overwhelming, and it was an indication those men were probably doing the same.
But, just when you think there is little hope, there was a glimmer of light in the darkness. A handful of men called out the behaviour.
“Oof. Dudes, we need to do better. Good on your father in law for staying around until the electrician left,” one man said.
“As a man, I apologise for the poor upbringing that so many of us had and got the crap that, not only you, but all females are subjected to. He’s a POS,” another added.
The lesson that needs to be learned is that unless a woman actively shows interest – leave her alone. No woman is looking for love while they work – particularly a married woman.
