Prison guard avoids jail after giving birth to child of armed robber inmate
An illicit affair was rumbled when officers discovered X-rated photos and a racy love note in the prisoner’s cell.
A prison officer who had sex with an armed robber inmate in a storeroom before having his baby wept as she was spared jail, the Sun reports
Rachel Stanton, 31, embarked on a relationship with Edwin Poole at HMP Five Wells in Northamptonshire in the UK where he was serving a 10-year sentence.
The mum-of-five was captured entering a storeroom with the lag for an hour of “intimacy”.
Their illicit tryst was rumbled when prison staff discovered three X-rated photos and a racy love letter in Poole’s cell.
The couple continued their relationship after Stanton was suspended and had a child together but have since split.
She sobbed at Northampton Crown Court as she was spared a jail sentence for wilful misconduct in public office.
Stanton was instead handed a nine-month sentence, suspended for 18 months, and ordered to take part in 20 days rehabilitation activity.
The court was told the mum was working a
s a trainee G4S security first line manager at HMP Five Wells in 2022 when she met Poole.
He had been jailed in 2018 for his part in a four-day spate of violent armed robberies.
After the relationship was discovered in July 2022, Stanton was suspended and Poole moved to another prison.
Sentencing, Judge David Herbert KC said: “You should have known better.
“There was clear undisputable evidence between you that was discovered.
“She should have known what the boundaries were. It shouldn’t take training to know she shouldn’t be doing that.”
Stanton is the latest in a string of female prison officers caught romping with inmates.
Aleesha Bates, 29, and Jodie Wilkes, 27, exchanged thousands of messages with the same inmate during an illicit love triangle at Buckley Hall jail in Rochdale in England’s north.
