Two bodies have been found in the search for missing pregnant teen Savanah Nicole Soto and her boyfriend Matthew Guerra.

Family reported Ms Soto, 18, missing after she failed to show up at the hospital in Texas, United States, to be induced on December 23.

“What we’re looking at right now is a very, very perplexing crime scene,” San Antonio Police Chief Bill McManus said on Tuesday night.

Two people were found dead in the car, Mr McManus confirmed.

He said that the scene is being investigated as a possible murder.

“We believe it is the missing woman and her boyfriend,” the chief said.

A medical examiner will now work to confirm that the bodies are Soto and her boyfriend, The Sun reports.

At the press conference, Mr McManus could not say if the woman in the car was pregnant nor give an update on the baby.

“We haven’t been able to move the bodies,” he said, adding that they had likely been in the car for three or four days.

Mr McManus said the information he was able to provide was preliminary and likely to change.

The San Antonio Police Department is handling the investigation.

Prior to addressing the media, Mr McManus spoke to a group of Ms Soto and Mr Guerra’s family members, according to WOAI-TV reporter Amanda Henderson.

Sobs could then be heard in the background as the chief was speaking to reporters.

Family members were seen consoling one another and wiping away tears.

Ms Henderson said the scene was “extremely emotional.”

The bodies were found at the Colinas at Medical Apartments in San Antonio.

Multiple police departments — including homicide detectives and crime scene technicians were spotted at the scene, which was roped off with caution tape.

Officials appeared to be investigating a grey vehicle.

Ms Soto was believed to be travelling in a 2013 grey Kia Optima at the time of her disappearance.

The horrific discovery came just hours after police in Texas updated a Clear Alert for Ms Soto, which was originally issued on Monday.

Police said in the update that Ms Soto was believed to be in “imminent danger.”

She “has caused significant concern among her family members after missing an essential medical appointment,” the statement continued.

Ms Soto was last seen on December 22 in the Leon Valley area of northwest San Antonio.

Family, including her mother Gloria Cordova, grew worried after Ms Soto didn’t show up to the hospital for her scheduled induction.

Ms Soto’s boyfriend, Mr Guerra, was deemed a missing person on Tuesday by Leon Valley Police.

His family originally contacted police in San Antonio who then passed the case along, according to local CBS affiliate KENS.

Additional information about Mr Guerra and his relationship with Ms Soto wasn’t immediately known.

Ms Soto’s family organised a search for the missing 18-year-old on Christmas.

“We love her. We miss her,” Ms Soto’s grandmother, Rachel Soto, told KENS.

“Whatever is going on, let her come home so we can have a Merry Christmas with her.”

Ms Soto’s mother previously told KENS that her daughter was excited to become a mother.

“Savanah was so, so happy because she was going to be a mummy. It breaks my heart,” Ms Cordova said.

She’s the one who filed the missing person report after she couldn’t get in touch with Ms Soto.

When she didn’t show up at the hospital, Ms Cordova drove to Soto’s apartment looking for her daughter.

“I went by there and knocked and knocked and knocked and she wasn’t answering,” Ms Cordova explained.

She said something didn’t seem right, adding that she couldn’t get in touch with Ms Soto’s boyfriend, either.

The worried mother shared updates on her Facebook profile to raise awareness of her daughters.

“If you see her please reach out to me and lmk (let me know) where you seen her,” she said.

“I’m worried about her safety … prayer for my baby girl.”
