Perth woman wins $1.6m in Saturday Lotto with first ticket in 20 years
A lucky Perth woman has become an instant millionaire with the first Lotto ticket she had purchased since her now adult children were kids.
A woman who bought her first Lotto ticket in 20 years is now a millionaire after claiming a stake in the Saturday Lotto division one prize pool.
The lucky winner from Perth’s north only checked her ticket after seeing a post online that a person who bought their ticket from Malaga Newsagency had a winning entry.
“I almost forgot I had the ticket altogether,” the Lotto winner said.
“The last time I bought a Lotto ticket my children were babies and now they’re all grown up.”
The woman in her 50s said she was in complete disbelief when she checked her numbers online and returned to the store the next morning to confirm she had won.
When staff told her she had definitely won, her family screamed, cried, laughed and sang.
She told Lotterywest she planned to buy a new house, car and help her family.
“It’s life changing, it really is. I’m so happy and excited,” she said.
Malaga Newsagency owner Bob Du said it was the second winning ticket sold by the same employee at his store in six months.
“It’s really surprising, to be honest, I’ve only had the store for a short period and have sold two Division One wins already,” he said.
“We have been very excited this week.
“The previous owners hadn’t sold a Division One prize for almost a decade I think.”
Lotterywest spokesman James Mooney said Malaga Newsagency was home to last October’s $30m Powerball prize, which was shared by a group of 15 workmates.
“It’s great to see another Malaga millionaire created, thanks to this store,” he said.
“This Saturday Lotto winner takes WA to 16 Division One wins for 2025 so far, and hopefully the winner’s list continues to grow throughout the week.”
