LUXURY brothel, the Daily Planet, which was established by the nephew of Australia’s Calabrian mafia boss Robert Trimbole, will be auctioned for an anticipated $7 million.

The property, part of a 1239sq m “supersite” in southeastern Melbourne, has been open for inspection of its Grecian-style spa rooms and mirrored boudoirs.

The secret world inside the 18-room luxury bordello, which includes statues, plush furnishings and gaming rooms, has been open for four decades catering to meet clients “deepest and most sought-after desires”.

Despite its international notoriety, the Daily Planet has been subject to police investigations for illegal operations and was once plunged into bankruptcy.

The nephew of infamous late Australia drug baron Robert Trimbole, known as John Trimble, opened the brothel in 1975.

In 2003, Mr Trimble made history when his holding company Platinum Platinum became the first sex industry business to list on the Australia Stock Exchange

Mr Trimble celebrated by flying in Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss to launch the ASX-listed company which advertised “first class service” of “sensual massage, protected oral sex on gentleman and protected intercourse with the lady of choice”.

The brothel is still operating with prices ranging between $240 for an hour in the morning and $280 in the evening.

But after the brothel went into receivership, it was placed with Gross Waddell for mortgagee auction.

The brothel site, plus the building next door along Elsternwick’s Horne Street, could make way for apartment developments.

In 2005, council officers discovered Mr Trimble had knocked an illegal doorway into the neighbouring building, and set up beds for 20 extra sex workers without fulfilling safety requirements or planning approvals.

The Daily Planet goes to auction on-site on November 18.
