Non-binary activist and stylist Deni TodoroviÄ has returned to social media, detailing the “dark” health battle they’ve recently endured.
The queer influencer, who has a following of more than 80,000 on Instagram, had not posted on the platform since early May.
TodoroviÄ made headlines last month for a baggage dispute with Jetstar staff at Melbourne Airport that led to an encounter with Australian Federal Police (AFP). They were also hit with a restraining order on behalf of their former partner, Mitchell Peter Latham.
In a lengthy message to fans this morning, the 35-year-old shared they had, for the past month, “been working hard to … overhaul what has been an honest, overwhelming and intimate mental health battle”. They also “vehemently” apologised to anyone “impacted by my actions and comments in recent weeks”.
“Suicide statistics in the LGBTQIA+ community are real and when I’m ready I will share my story in full. Here with you all. Honestly. As I always have,” TodoroviÄ wrote.
While they said they were “tremendously grateful” for the following they’d amassed, they’d “sidelined deep and personal traumas and abuse that went unspoken, untreated and ignored”.
“I have lived a truly robust and colourful rainbow life … I’ve come to share so much of that with you, my darlings, however like all lives, mine has been layered and I have battled complicated and painful moments that I regrettably too often let take control [of] my life. Namely dealing with aforementioned traumas,” they wrote.
“Thanks to the unrelenting support from health care professionals, particularly the whole team at the impeccable Shellharbour Hospital, NSW mental health and the support of my family at the Barwon Health Foundation in Geelong, Brunswick and Coburg, first responders and even the police. Because whilst ACAB (All Cops Are B*stards) is true we can’t brush all folks with one paint stroke.
“Alongside this has been the unequivocal support and love from my family and friends, all my families and all my friends.”
TodoroviÄ said they’ve now “committed to what I know will be a lifelong battle to prioritise and recognise when I need to put myself first”.
They then issued a “vehement” apology to “all of my darlings who were impacted by my actions and comments in recent weeks”.
“I will continue to apologise to people both privately and publicly and have been grateful to receive acceptance empathy, apologies and support and love in return,” they said.
“For those of you who have been here since day one, you know who I am and how I speak and what I stand for and it goes without saying that the past month and even before, is in no way a holistic reflection of the goals I set out to achieve. Which were always to inform and inspire.
“I found no joy in letting down my community, brand partners and peers who helped champion my career and I look forward to privately and genuinely mending those relationships – if they so wish to do so. However I stand by everything I said. I do acknowledge that often my delivery was off.”
