As many prepare to bid farewell to 2024 and welcome the new year, it has been revealed that the stroke of midnight will also usher in a whole new generation.

Generation Beta — nicknamed Beta Babies — will be born between 2025 and 2039. These will be the children of younger Millennials and older members of Generation Z.

It is estimated that by 2035, Generation Beta will make up 16 per cent of the population. Beta follows Generation Alpha, who were born between 2010 and 2024.

The move was made to the Greek alphabet to show how these generations will have a seamless integration of the physical and digital worlds, according to social researcher Mark McCrindle.

“They will likely be the first generation to experience autonomous transportation at scale, wearable health technologies, and immersive virtual environments as standard aspects of daily life,” a blog post from the McCrindle research organisation said.

“Their formative years will be marked by a greater emphasis on personalisation — AI algorithms will tailor their learning, shopping, and social interactions in ways we can only begin to imagine today.”

Mr McCrindle said sustainability would be an expectation for Generation Beta.

The research organisation also pointed out that technology will play a greater role in parenting these children.

Jason Dorsey, a generational researcher, said Generation Beta will be born into a completely post-pandemic world. This is unlike the younger side of Generation Alpha. It means they will never experience school from home.

“It’ll be something that maybe older siblings went through, certainly something they learn about in history, but not something that is necessarily a contemporary event,” Mr Dorsey told NBC.

He said this generation will also be entrenched in smart watches and artificial intelligence. He said climate change will also be a huge deal for Generation Beta.
