A pregnant woman was killed when her unborn baby was cut from her body after she was allegedly lured to a fake baby shower by an old school friend.
Brazilian woman Flávia Godinho Mafra was 36 weeks pregnant when her body was found by her husband, Valdeli Mafra, on August 28 with their unborn baby missing.
An autopsy showed the 24-year-old died from cuts to her abdomen and injuries caused by a brick, local news outlet NSC Total reports.
The report stated Flávia – a teacher who was “always willing to help people – was murdered by a friend who “intended to steal the baby” after luring her to a “supposed baby shower”.
The baby – a little girl – was later found by police after being taken to hospital by the suspect and her husband who were arrested at the scene.

The baby survived the horrifying incident and is “doing well” at the Joana de Gusmão Children’s Hospital in Florianópolis.
“Flávia disappeared on Thursday afternoon when she left for the supposed baby shower that would take place in São João Batista,” the translated report states.
“Two other friends were aware of the event, but were told the day that the event had been cancelled.”
Concern for the mum-to-be was first flagged when she did not come home from the baby shower and family members realised she had last checked her WhatsApp messages at 3.48pm.
The friend responsible for the baby shower claimed the missing mum had “left with someone else” but when her body was found at 9am the following day, NSC Total reports she “confessed”.
Flávia worked as a substitute teacher as well as in a stationery store.
She had diabetes which put her at risk during COVID-19, preventing her from working in recent months.
A press conference held by police stated the 26-year-old alleged murderer said she became pregnant in October 2019, but suffered a miscarriage in January this year.
“She continued to lie to everyone that she was still pregnant,” an officer from the Civil and Military Police said, according to Diario Costa Esmeralda.
After taking her to an abandoned area, the woman allegedly hit Flávia with a brick when she turned her back and then cut her belly to remove the child.
At the hospital, the baby had cuts on her back, rousing suspicions of health officials who also noted the woman had no physical signs of recent childbirth.
