A British mum is set to be hanged in India after drugging her husband’s biryani and murdering him in front of their young son.

Ramandeep Kaur Mann, 38, laced her partner’s favourite meal with sleeping pills before slitting his throat while on holiday in September 2016.

British businessman Sukhjit Singh bled to death inside his mum’s home in Delhi.

The sole eyewitness to the horrific crime was the couple’s nine-year-old son, who testified against his mother in court, The Sun reports.

After eating the curry, Sukhjit was struck over the head with a hammer before having his throat slit with a knife, it was reported.

Mann was found guilty of the love-triangle murder along with accomplice Gurpreet Singh, said to have been part of an aim to claim his $3.8 million (£2 million) life insurance policy.

A court this week heard how Ramandeep and her accomplice Gurpreet Singh were lovers.

Government lawyer Shree Pal Verma told how Ramandeep’s son testified: “He told the court how his mother and Gurpreet killed his father in his sleep in their house.”

“During the investigation, it came to light that the woman was in a relationship with Gurpreet and they had planned to murder Sukhjit.”

The pair were paraded in court before being sentence this week.

Verma explained that on the night of September 1, 2016, Ramandeep mixed sedatives into food, putting all but one of the family members into a deep sleep.

Mann then let her lover into the property, before they brutally murdered her husband.

The couple’s young son, who had not had the sedative-laced food that evening, woke up to the chaos and witnessed the horrific crime.

Verma said: “He woke up to noise in the room and saw his mother sitting on his father’s body and smothering him with a pillow.

“Gurpreet hit his (the child’s) father twice with a hammer on his head. As his father was still alive, Gurpreet took out a knife from his pocket. His mother took the knife from Gurpreet and slit his father’s throat.”

Mann formerly worked as shop manager at Argos in Derby, and met Sukhjit when he was working as a driver in England.

Sukhjit’s mum told reporters after Mann was sentenced that she felt “relieved”.

“My prayers were answered and I got what I was expecting from the court,” she said. “I was demanding capital punishment for Ramandeep so that no mother’s child dies like this.”

Despite the ruling, Ramandeep plans to appeal the sentence, and claims her innocence.
