Mum baffled by ‘creepy black balls’ inside kids’ cubby – do you know what they are?
A Queensland woman who discovered “thousands” of mystery black balls in her kids’ cubby house has left everyone baffled – even pest experts.
A mum who shared a photo of “thousands” of “creepy black balls” she discovered in her kids’ cubby house has left the internet – and experts – stumped.
The Queensland woman caused confusion when she turned to Facebook for help identifying what the mystery balls were that were littered across the floor and even stuck to the walls.
Wondering if they were insect eggs or droppings of some sort, she asked other parents online in search of some answers.
But while some commenters warned the mystery balls were a sign of some sort of infestation, experts seem unconvinced.
“I’ve never seen anything like them before,” a spokesperson for Pest Off Solutions in Cairns told news.com.au.
“Looks like someone has dropped something on the ground like poppy seeds.”

The analysis was shared by Yulian Siderov, a pest control expert from Fantastic Services in Melbourne, who said it was “very doubtful it’s pest eggs”.
“Without being able to touch them and see what their texture is like, [it’s hard to know for sure],” he told The Sun.
“But on first look it doesn’t look like pest eggs, more like seeds. It’s a hard choice between synthetic confetti balls or poppy seeds.”
Confusion erupted online when a woman pleaded for help on Facebook in a bid to determine whether she had termites.
According to Kidspot, suggestions quickly started rolling in, with people taking a stab in the dark at what they thought the balls might be.
One person suggested they could be tick eggs, but this was quickly dismissed by someone else who shared that “you would need a magnifying glass to see and identify tick eggs” as they aren’t “visible to the naked eye”.
“Try and squash one. If it doesn’t squash or fluffs back up, could be from a toy. If it pops could be an egg, if it crushes into dirt or dust it could be poop,” another user suggested.
While one mum had a similar train of thought to the experts, suggesting they looked like poppy seeds.
“I used to pick them off my muffins and bread when I was a kid because I thought it was always fly poo,” she explained.
Insect faeces was exactly what other commenters were convinced the balls were – with other people arguing that they were “too shiny” to be poo.
Many suggested the balls were pokeweed seeds, which mice are known to “stash”, suggesting the woman may have a rodent infestation.
