A model dubbed the “world’s most wanted girlfriend” after 5,000 men applied to date her has shared where other women are going “wrong”.
Vera Dijkmans made headlines after announcing on social media that she would be accepting applications from men to be her boyfriend. She was flooded with responses. However, the 27-year-old said only three men fit her criteria.
Sadly, no romance blossomed for the London woman.
The sought-after singleton is now sharing some choice words for women struggling to find Mr Right that is likely to ruffle some feathers.
“Women need to have more respect for themselves and set clear boundaries with men,” said Vera, who has over seven million followers across social media.
“A man should take you on a proper date – like going out for dinner or doing an activity together.
“You shouldn’t settle for late-night requests to ‘come over’ or going on dates where he has made no effort to plan in advance.”
She said that was a hard rule of hers to only go to “impressive first dates”. She also added that suitors should bring a gift on the first date.
“I’ve received things like expensive clothing – including from Louis Vuitton and Hermès – but it’s mostly about the gesture,” she said.
“A bouquet with flowers would also be OK.
“It doesn’t have to be something extravagant but it shows that he values your time and company.”
She said she wanted the “princess treatment” because that was what all women deserved.
Vera has also shared key red flags that women should watch out for — including only getting text messages after 10pm as it shows a “lack of respect”.
“If that happens, you should immediately cut him off,” Vera said.
“You also need to keep an eye out for men that make false promises or have double standards. “If they don’t take care of themselves both in terms of hygiene and finances, that’s another big red flag for me.”
Vera believes any relationship without these “fundamental rules” will fail. The model admits that she has been subject to backlash from women who disagree with her approach or are “jealous” of her.
She said a family member who has been looking for love refused to talk to her after the boyfriend application, labelling it “disgraceful”.
“I recently had an interaction with a make-up artist who didn’t want to help me because she noticed her boyfriend followed me on social media,” she said.
“But thankfully, I also have plenty of women who support and wish me well.
“And, I’m not going to lie, it felt amazing to have so many men apply to be my boyfriend.” Vera believes men are attracted to her because she is “authentically herself”. But the model isn’t about to settle for anything less than she deserves, with her criteria including being intelligent, funny, responsible – and “preferably rich”.
She said: “At the moment, I’ve put the boyfriend search on hold but I’m keeping my options open.
“I’m just very picky and I need a guy to be almost perfect.
“I don’t think I should have to compromise on my needs – I’d rather be single until I find the man I’m meant to be with. “
It obviously feels good to receive attention and be loved, but I have also learned that getting attention from men is not the most important thing in life.”
