Mattel unveils special edition dolls to celebrate Barbie The Movie

Mattel has unveiled a special collection of the iconic plastic figurine to celebrate Barbie The Movie hitting cinemas soon.

Mattel has just unveiled its new line of Barbie dolls to celebrate the release of the namesake movie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.

The limited-edition line of nine dolls will feature looks fans will see in Barbie The Movie, which is set to hit Australian cinema screens on July 20, including the vintage pink gingham dress spotted in the blockbuster’s trailer.

“Barbie The Movie is a monumental moment for the brand, and we cannot wait for fans to experience Barbie like never before on the big screen,” Lisa McKnight, executive vice president and global head of Barbie and dolls at Mattel, said.

“The new line perfectly captures the fun and joy of Barbie that is at the heart of the film.

“This collection allows fans of all ages to celebrate their favourite characters and scenes from the movie. What an incredible way to kick off the season of Barbie.”

There are six new Barbie dolls as well as three different Kens, with prices starting at $54.99. Fans can also buy an additional “fashion pack” which includes three iconic Barbie outfits from the movie: a blue and white sundress, the gingham pink blouse and short set, and her dreamy pyjama outfit.

The “Pink Corvette Convertible” driven by the characters as they traverse through Barbie Land and beyond is also available to purchase, for those who really want to recreate the movie at home.

Along with the new Barbie collection, Mattel is releasing a collection of products celebrating the live action feature film across the larger Mattel portfolio, including a replica three-storey “Dreamhouse”.

There’s no denying how uncanny the dolls are to the real life actors playing them.

The Ken doll in the “matching denim set” looks almost identical to the promotional photo of Ryan Gosling released earlier in the year.

Margot’s mini-me is also strikingly similar.

The new Barbie line is available in Amazon, Big W, Kmart, Myer, Target as well as a selection of independent retailers now.
