A man has denied punching a baby boy in the head after being accused of striking the infant outside a Perth pub earlier this month.

Police allege Ian Douglas James Gordon, 27, approached a father who was standing in a carpark near the Saint Hotel, Innaloo on March 3.

The man’s 10-week-old son was strapped to his chest in a baby carrier.

Police allege Gordon and the man had a brief conversation in which Gordon asked the dad, “Is that baby real?”

When the dad replied, “He is”, and turned to show him, Gordon allegedly punched the baby in the head.

The baby suffered minor injuries, and Gordon was charged with one count of endangering the life, health or safety of a person.

He pleaded not guilty in Perth Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Gordon is on bail with several conditions and will face a trial allocation hearing on May 28.
