A man who allegedly pulled an axe from his backpack and scared diners at 2.25am at a popular fast-food outlet has been arrested.

A man who allegedly stormed a McDonald’s restaurant with an axe, terrorising patrons and causing thousands of dollars worth of damage has been arrested.

Footage shows a man entering a McDonald’s outlet in New York at 2.25am when he then became involved in a dispute with three other men.

The men appeared to smack the man, who then allegedly pulled an axe from his backpack and threatened them.

In the footage, frightened onlookers can be heard asking the man to “chill”. He can then be heard shouting: “Don’t be afraid of me, be afraid of him.”

He then allegedly went into a “frenzy”, swinging the axe and breaking panes of glass.

Michael Palacios, 31, was later arrested and charged by police.

The incident, which occurred on Friday, was captured and shared on TikTok and Twitter.

“NYC always good for some chaotic mayhem … could have been ugly!” one person wrote of the footage.

The video sparked fear among viewers, with some labelling it “menacing”.

However others argued he was “defending himself”.

Mr Palacios is facing charges of criminal mischief, menacing, and criminal possession of a weapon in relation to the incident, Daily Mail reports.

Police confirmed no one was hurt in the incident, and Mr Palacios was released on bail on Sunday.
