The family of a teen who went missing from his Melbourne home have revealed their own theory behind is disappearance.

Krishank Karthik, 16, also known as Krish, went missing on Monday, when he failed to turn up to class at Suzanne Cory High School.

When he didn't come home his mother Shobana Karthik rang his friends and was shocked when they told her Krish hadn’t attended school in weeks.

The 16-year-old was last seen at a property on Freemont Court in Truganina about 7.30am on Monday, 5 August. Security footage of the family’s home showed Krish leaving the property with a small suitcase and some clothes.

He then sold his phone at a store in Melbourne’s CBD and switched his travel card so he can’t be tracked.

In a bizarre twist police revealed that Krish has travelled to Sydney and had been spotted outside a crisis accommodation building in Surry Hills on Tuesday at 5am.

Shobana then discovered that Krish had been in relationship and the girl in question had broken up with him.

“We found out on Tuesday that he had a girlfriend and they broke up on Friday, and we have given all those chat messages to the police,” she told 7NEWS.

Shobana says she believes her son is heartbroken and embarrassed about returning home.

“She’s the loser, not you, baby,” she said. “Come back, you’ll get a better girl than her,” she said.

Krish’s family only found out he had not been attending school on Monday and have no idea where he went in the day for two weeks as he returned home at the normal time every day.

Shobana says she believes Krish will come home in his own time.

“As a mum it’s really hard, but I’m trying to think from Krishan’s perspective,” she said.

“I was broken, but today I’ve got the courage to send him all the positive vibes to come back home.

“Every day we go up to his room and hug his favourite sweater, kiss it.

“Krish, you know we love you the most.

“We are not forcing you to come back home, the only thing I request to you ... just call us and tell us you’re safe and whenever you’re ready, you’ll come back.”

Krishank is about 177cm tall and was last seen wearing a grey hoodie, black track pants, black shoes and black Armani glasses.

Anyone who has any information should call Werribee Police on 03 9742 9444.
