A Gold Coast influencer has revealed she’s targeted by “nasty” trolls every day for her choice of clothing, simply because she’s a mum-of-two.

Kat Clark, 37, has amassed 5.2 million followers documenting her life on TikTok, including sharing her past struggles as a single mum as well as everyday parenting dilemmas and even fashion advice.

But after she went viral for looking like her then teen daughter’s “twin” sister in June 2021, catapulting her to social media fame, Clark said she’s copped a barrage of abuse regarding her appearance.

“Everyday I receive nasty comments about my outfits,” she told news.com.au.

“I have started posting a lot more styling videos on my Instagram and have received so much backlash for my choice of clothing.

“There was a particular dress I wore recently that I decided not to wear a bra with and a lot of people were offended by this.

“People were commenting, asking me to ‘put a bra on’ and to ‘have a little respect for myself’.

“A few people said they were ‘disgusted’ because I was a mother and didn’t have a bra on.”

Clark, who had her eldest daughter Latisha on her 17th birthday, said some of the crueller remarks about her outfits have “insinuated I’m overweight” while others have said she’s “too old”.

“In another Instagram post I wore a lacy top and people were body shaming me for the veins in my chest,” she explained.

“There’s always lots of negative comments on Facebook about my choice of clothing too, saying I should ‘size up’ and ‘cover up’ more.”

While Clark states she tries to “ignore the negative remarks”, she said the sheer volume of them can make it a difficult task sometimes.

“It’s actually mind blowing to me that people are offended by what I chose to wear,” the 2022 Australian TikTok “Creator of the Year” winner said.

“It’s especially surprising to me that other women were tearing me down.

“I try to be strong and ignore the negative comments but when you see so many come through about how you look it does make you start to feel a little insecure.”

Clark, who has been married to her husband Jonathan for almost 20 years, said she’s “lucky” to have her family “lift me up when I start to feel down”, but often calls out the unwanted commentary in her videos.

In a recent clip, Clark explained a fellow mum at her younger daughter Deja’s football game had told her to “start dressing my age”, stating the remark was made because she was wearing a crop top.

“I’ll wear crop tops until I’m 80 just watch me ,” she captioned the video which showed her trying on some new clothes from a recent shopping trip.

Fans were quick to tell the mum she should “wear whatever you want”, and urged her not to listen to critics.

“I think she was annoyed cause you look so good in everything,” one said.

“Nothing wrong with the way you dress, you always look presentable,” another agreed.

As someone else declared: “Dress how you want to dress don’t let anybody stop you.”

Clark said she felt it was important to share these stories as it might help someone who follows her online – and even her own kids.

“I don’t want my children or the young girls that follow me to feel like they need to change the way that they dress or present themselves based on someone else’s opinions,” she shared.

“Going down that route can open up doors to them feeling like that in other situations in life and not feeling free to express themselves the way that they truly are.”
