An Australian influencer has responded to backlash from fans, who accused her of “gloating” about her new quarter-of-a-million-dollar car.

Georgie Stevenson, who is the co-founder of supplements brand Naked Harvest, shared on TikTok this week that she’d purchased her “dream car”, a Porsche Taycan Turbo electric. Depending on features, the vehicle starts at around $250,000.

“When the delivery driver asked me if I had driven a Porsche before, I said yes I used to have a Macan and he responded ‘your parents must be nice’ …” she recounted in the written overlay of a photo of the vehicle.

But the 29-year-old was quickly inundated with negative comments from some of her followers, suggesting Ms Stevenson was being “tone-deaf” in the face of the ongoing cost of living crisis.

“Cool. I can’t afford my rent …” one wrote.

“Wow, she’s (sic) knows how to read a room #peoplearestrugglingtolive,” another said.

“The fact that all her followers paid for it and she’s rubbing it in their face is off,” a third commented, while a different viewer declared: “How insufferable.”

Another, referencing Kourtney Kardashian’s infamous burn when her younger sister lost her diamond earring at the bottom of the ocean: “Kim there’s people that are dying …”

“I’m all for having nice things. And I’m not one to judge how people spend their money, my car is a similar price to hers,” someone else said.

“But holy sh*t this woman likes to gloat. I hope she doesn’t get Kim K’d and all her sh*t stolen. Stay humble girl.”

Plenty more users, however, congratulated Ms Stevenson on the achievement – calling her an “inspiration”.

“NEVER GETTING OVER THIS!! So so so incredibly proud of you and love watching your evolution,” one said.

While a second wrote: “Happy for you. We all see how hard you work and seeing you achieve your desires just motivates all of us to expect the same from ourselves.”

“You deserve this so much,” a third person commented, with a fourth writing: “LOVEEEE (sic)! Why are people so jelly in the comments? Women support women!! Get that bag QUEEN!!!”

Ms Stevenson shared a screenshot of the final comment to her Instagram Story, seemingly hitting back at those who had criticised her purchase.

“I’ve been an ‘influencer’ for 8+ years & the greatest thing it has taught me is to strengthen my ‘not caring what others think’ muscle,” she wrote.

“Highly recommend you practice this too. Once you have awareness that other’s opinions have everything to do with THEIR thoughts/beliefs/behaviours NOT YOU it’s freeing! Then you’re free to be your badass self & MAGIC happens.”

It comes after Ms Stevenson was labelled “ableist” and “dangerous” in September after stating she “100 per cent” believed that falling ill is a choice.

In an episode of her podcast, Rise & Conquer, Ms Stevenson’s producer Atiyya Batty shared it was the opinion of an unknown third party that “getting sick is a choice”.

“Your body gets presented with the virus, and your subconscious chooses whether it wants to take on the upgrade or not,” Ms Batty said.

To which Ms Stevenson responded: “I 100 per cent believe this.”

The episode was “quickly deleted”, according to Australian influencer watchdog account @keepingupwithaussieinfluencers, who shared footage of the interaction.

Outraged viewers flooded the comments, with one writing: “So kids who get sick with cancer chose that? What an absolute flog. I dare her to sit in a children’s cancer ward and tell the parents their children chose to be sick.”

Another viewer said she had been shocked by “the ableism of it all”.

A spokesperson for the podcast said the clip had been “pulled out of context”.

“In the episode, we chat about how people can feel slightly sick/drained after doing self-development,” the spokesperson said.

“We were referring to minor cold and flu symptoms, not any major illnesses of any sort.”
