Insane cost of Aussie woman’s basic Coles grocery shop shocks

A Melbourne woman has shared how just one bag of groceries, filled with a lot of home brand products, set her back almost $100.

One shopper has been left stunned at the continuous rise of Australia’s cost of living after a bag of groceries set her back close to $100.

TikTok user @emmaangelx took to the social media app to share her “grocery haul” and asked her followers to guess how much the items cost her.

She revealed most of her grocery haul was Coles home brand products; including paper towels, bread, fibre bars, milk and menstrual pads.

“This is where it goes f*****g downhill,” she said, pulling out a bag of Fairy Platinum dishwasher tablets.

“Oh god it was half price and it still cost $18. I can’t do this s**t.”

A spokesperson for Finish, one of the leading brands of dishwashing tablets, recently explained to news.com.au the household essential had risen dramatically in price due to “increased costs across our supply chain”.

Emma also purchased sugar and a $6.50 maple syrup bottle, adding she likely could have gotten the item cheaper.

As well as this, she also purchased a pack of three razor heads, three lemons, deodorant, cat food and two avocados.

She revealed the single bag of groceries cost her $94.08, and she was visibly shocked by the price.

Others were equally as outraged over the rising cost of living crisis that is facing Australians.

One added: “You shouldn’t have to explain yourself for buying maple syrup.”

“The way you have to shop at like 4 different stores to spend less, but then you end up spending more on transport or shipping anyway,” a third said.

It comes as Australians were left reeling after discovering the cost of a dishwashing tablets had soared.

Brisbane woman Tanya Roberts shared the current price of dishwashing tablets during a recent in supermarket trip in a viral video.

The clip shows several different brands of the common household product, including a packet of 45 capsules from Fairy priced at $72 and a Finish packet, containing 65 tablets, on sale for $64.

“You are kidding me,” she said, as the camera pans across the Woolies shelf.

“The price of this … far out. It’s highway robbery.”

Both Coles and Woolworths have similar pricing across the product range.
