Horror discovery of boy in freezer after chilling note
Police have made a tragic discovery after a little girl handed a note to a teacher, leading to a dramatic chain of events.
A four-year-old boy’s body was found in a freezer after his older sister alerted her school with a note.
The young girl gave her primary teacher a note from her mother that indicated she was “being held against her will” and didn’t know where her son was, Las Vegas police said.
That set off a dramatic chain of events that led to the arrest of Brandon Toseland – who has now been charged with murder and kidnapping.
Toseland is accused of killing the boy and hiding his body in a freezer.
The mother was questioned by police on Tuesday and told detectives that Toseland held her “against her will” in their Las Vegas home and hasn’t seen her son alive since December 11, police said.
Less than 24 hours later, Mason’s grandmother – Diane White-Maldonado – told The Sun that her daughter and primary school-aged granddaughter was with her.
“I’ve been able to talk to her. I went to pick her up yesterday. She’s been around us and falling apart. I don’t want to get into anything more that,” she said.
Her daughter introduced Toseland as her boyfriend a few months after her husband and the children’s biological father died in January 2021.
“There were red flags right away in his first encounter with our family,” Ms White-Maldonado said. “And I think he knew that.
“He chose to stay away. He worked on isolating her from our family because he expressed some jealousy and insecurities.”
She said she didn’t want to get into details because her young granddaughter was within earshot.
Tribute to Mason
Mason’s family wrote a heartfelt tribute on GoFundMe to raise money for a burial plot next to his dad Elijah Dominguez.
“Mason Dominguez was just like any other four-year-old: happy, sweet, intelligent very outgoing! He’s super loved by his aunts, uncles and cousins.
“His dad loved him so much, and he made him super happy that he looked and acted just like him … When my uncle passed away a year ago, my family or I couldn’t see Mason. We missed him and his sister very much but to know we won’t ever see Mason again hurts the whole family 1000x more.
“We had always hoped we would be able to see him again, at least once … just to give him a hug, a kiss and tell him we love him,” the family wrote.
Mum sends note with daughter
The situation Tuesday quickly escalated after the boy’s mother sent her daughter to school with a note to give to her elementary schoolteacher.
The note “indicated that her mother was being held against her will”.
Police said they stopped Toseland from leaving in a car with the boy’s mother and ultimately arrested him on murder and kidnapping charges.
He appeared in court Wednesday morning.
The boy’s mother told detectives that “had been inquiring about the whereabouts of her child and believed her child might possibly be deceased,” police said during Tuesday’s press conference.
“She stated that she was not allowed to leave the house and that she was not allowed to go into the garage of the residence.”
That’s where police said they found the freezer with the boy’s body in it.
Police stressed this is very early in the investigation, and “there are still a lot of unexplained questions.”
