Here are just a few women who were able to turn their lives around:
Madison McManus, 28, found herself hooked on hard drugs from the age of 15.
The US mum from New Jersey overdosed 19 times and spent time in jail before overcoming drugs to win her daughter back.
A mug shot shows Madison with puffy eyes and unkempt hair, but the new Madison is almost unrecognisable, with long brunette hair and a slim figure.
Faith was a meth addict who spent six years living on the streets.
The 22-year-old from Missouri became an online inspiration when she began sharing videos of losing teeth to drug abuse in the hopes of persuading others to stop their abuse.
Videos posted on her TikTok account show her teeth becoming rotten and black before they had to be removed.
In one clip, the former meth addict said she spent half a decade on a “drug bender on methamphetamines” and called home any place she could “lay my head at”.
“I obviously didn’t take care of my teeth. Well, I thought I did, but I didn’t.
“It caused a lot of breakage, a lot of rotting, and I finally got them removed.”
Faith had dentures fitted and is radiant in her new look.
Jamee Valet, 27, battled drug addiction over two years and had a “rough” childhood.
Photos pre-getting clean show her face covered in bruises and blemishes.
The Oregon woman revealed on Facebook that she struggled with a heroin and meth addiction and often turned to crime to fund her habit.
She now works in construction after going back to school and gaining qualifications.
Other former addicts shared their journey towards sobriety on “The Addict’s Diary” – an online diary by former addict Kevin Alter.
Alter says he was homeless for more than a decade and got hooked on drugs after trying cocaine with mates at high school.
He tried to get clean in rehab 29 times.
“What would you do if you were a raging intravenous heroin and cocaine addict?” he told bored panda.
“If I had to go away 45 times I would have. All I ever wanted was to be okay. I hated that I was a drug addict.”
Despite feeling as though he had “burned every bridge” with family and friends, Alter was determined to “channel negativity into positive energy”.
“I woke up that 29th time and I decided I was going to see how far I could take my life.
“I took all of that pain and I used it to change my life.”
Three years later he established Addict’s Diary to function as a blog where fellow addicts share their stories about substance abuse, and recovery.
Recently Addict’s Diary shared a jaw-dropping transformation of a young woman who stated she though she was going “die on a park bench with a needle in my arm”.
In her police mugshot she could barely open her eyes and had visible signs of addiction and exhaustion to her face – but her after photo showed her with healthy skin and long flowing blonde hair at her graduation.
“How about that for motivation,” the photo was captioned.
The inspiring before and after images were so contrasting, many praised the woman – calling her transformation “insane” and “unreal”.
