Florida ‘hot cop’ resigns over anti-semitic, sex on duty allegations

HE WAS dubbed the “hot cop” after a selfie of he and his colleagues went viral. Now he’s in the headlines for another reason.

A POLICE officer dubbed “hot cop” has resigned from the force amid allegations he posted anti-semitic comments on Facebook and had sex while on duty, according to a new report.

Officer Michael Hamill — one of three Gainesville police officers dubbed “hunkapotumuses” after their selfie during Hurricane Irma clean-up efforts went viral — had been under investigation after “several citizens” spotted the hate-fuelled posts on his personal Facebook page, the New York Post reported.

The department was also investigating the sex allegations, Gainesville Police Department spokesman Ben Tobias said in a statement obtained by The Gainesville Sun.

Hamill resigned from the department December 6 — when Internal Affairs interviews were set to interview him regarding the allegations, according to the outlet.

The department had initially suspended him with pay on September 15 as it launched an investigation.

Hamill allegedly wrote both of his offending posts before he was hired on the force in October 2016, the paper reported.

In April 2011, he allegedly wrote: “So I find it funny that people will talk about how our government needs to do something about our economy and in reality it’s YOU who needs to stop taking advantage of our system and get a life and do something with your life. Gotta love reality when it hits you in the face. Stupid people annoy me. Put them in an oven and deal with them the Hitler way. Haha.”

And then in April 2013, he reportedly posted: “Who knew that reading jewish jokes before I go to bed would not only make me feel better about myself but also help me to sleep better as well. Here is one for everybody, ‘What’s the difference between boy scouts and jews?’ Anybody know? Well it is because ‘Boy scouts come back from their camps.’”

Investigators determined that “the offensive nature of these posts directly affect Officer Hamill’s ability to interact with citizens of the community and reflect poorly on the Gainesville Police Department,” according to an Internal Affairs report obtained by the outlet.

Back in October, Internal Affairs received a complaint regarding a sexual battery criminal investigation against Hamill — which ultimately determined that no charges would be filed, the paper reported.

An Internal Affairs investigation revealed that on four dates between February and April of this year, he visited a woman while on duty — and evidence showed he had sexual relations with her, according to the report.

The woman claimed to investigators that she and Hamill first met when he drove her home as an Uber driver — which violates the department’s order against outside employment, the paper reported.

Through Tobias, Hamill declined to comment to The Gainesville Sun.
