Expat’s shock at Aussie bus driver’s act
A US woman has shared her shock at a bus driver’s unexpected act after waiting to be transported to Sydney’s domestic terminal.
An American woman has shared her surprise at how “chill” Aussies are after an eye-opening experience on a packed shuttle bus at Sydney Airport.
The Californian woman who goes by the name of ‘Jaylee’ on TikTok, shared a clip explaining how she caught a plane from Los Angeles International Airport before landing in Sydney for a connecting flight to Brisbane.
When the plane touched down in Sydney, Jaylee was transported to the domestic airport by a shuttle bus that was packed with passengers exhausted following the 15-hour flight.
However, it was what happened next that left her shocked.
Jaylee revealed how the bus driver made an unexpected pit-stop and the surprise reaction from the tired passengers.
“There’s a massive line to get onto the domestic terminal bus. There’s so many people waiting, it takes so long,” Jaylee explained.
“Everyone is tired, they’ve been on a 15 hour flight, they get through customs — they’re standing waiting to get onto the bus that takes you to the domestic terminal and the bus guy shows up and he gets out.
“He then says to everyone, ‘I am just going to step out for a second, I just need like five minutes to just go inside and chill’.”
“I thought everyone was going to be p****d but Australian people are just so not worried about anything.
“Literally, everyone was like ‘no worries mate go on get yourself a coffee’.”
Jaylee said she began to laugh because if it had happened anywhere else “people would be so p****d”.
“But in Australia everyone is like ‘yeh mate go for it no worries at all’.”
Jaylee said the bus driver came back 10 minutes later and she found the whole experience to be the “most craziest thing”.
“It’s something I really like about Australia,” she said, adding that Aussies are not bothered about anything.
Since Jaylee shared the clip two days ago, it has amassed more than 65,000 views with hundreds of Aussies agreeing about the “laid back” culture.
“It’s always interesting seeing how other people view us,” one TikTok user wrote.
“I think this is the perfect welcome to Australia experience for new International arrivals. Btw, may be it was the poor bus driver’s tea brake time,” another commented, while a third added: “I think Australians understand the need for a break. Google ‘smoko’.”
Jaylee has been regularly documenting her Aussie culture shock experiences to her TikTok including learning about different food names, understanding Aussie jargon and driving on the left hand side of the road.
