Donald Trump’s mystery daughter Tiffany emerges from shadows
SHE’S been dubbed the “silent one” of Donald Trump’s four adult children, but Tiffany Trump was far from quiet on Tuesday night.
SHE’S Donald Trump’s youngest daughter and has been dubbed the “silent one” of the Republican presidential nominee’s four adult children, but Tiffany Trump was far from quiet on Tuesday night.
The 22-year-old recent university graduate stepped out of the shadow cast by her more high-profile siblings at the GOP convention in Cleveland, Ohio, and sung her famous father’s praises in front of a packed-out arena of nearly 20,000.
“Please excuse me if I am a little nervous, when I graduated college a couple of months ago, I never expected to be here addressing the nation,” Tiffany began, although there wasn’t a hint of nerves in her voice.
“I have given a few speeches in front of classrooms of students, but never in an arena with more than 10 million people watching. But, like my father I never back down from challenges, so here I am, a little new to the convention scene, but incredibly honoured and very confident in the good man that America is coming to know.”
What followed was an emotion-filled five-minute speech. The confident Trump sibling shared warm and personal anecdotes that have been rarely heard outside the family.
“It’s often said that with enough effort and determination you can do anything you put your mind to. But, saying those words and living them are different things, and my father has lived them,” Tiffany said.
“It’s one of his defining qualities and I’ve seen it in action all of my life. Whatever he does, he gives his all and does it well.
“His desire for excellence is contagious, he possesses a unique gift for bringing that trait out in others, starting with those closest to him. He’s always helped me to be the best version of myself,” she told the hushed arena, the crowd hanging on her every word.
“He draws out the talent and drive in people so that they can achieve their full potential. That’s a great quality to have in a father, and better yet in the President of the United States.”
Tiffany then recounted fond memories of her father from her childhood, mentioning that she still keeps her report cards from school to look back and see the “sweet notes” he wrote on them. “Donald Trump has never done anything halfway, least of all as a parent,” she added.
She also spoke of “the Trump formula”, which is basically “to hold nothing back and let nothing get in the way of your dreams”.
Tiffany has barely been sighted on her father’s campaign trail over the past 13 months, preferring to let her older half-siblings, Ivanka, Eric and Donald Jr., step into the spotlight while completing her studies.
But Tuesday night’s address inside the Quicken Loans Arena marked an important opportunity for Trump’s elusive youngest daughter to make her political debut and make herself known to voters.
As the daughter of Trump’s second wife, Marla Marples, Tiffany moved to California to live with her mother when her parents divorced after six years in 1999.
Tiffany was just a little girl at the time.
In 2011, she remarked during a segment on Oprah Winfrey’s Where Are They Now that she was “very close” with her mother, who had raised her “like a single mum”. She also commented that living in California had distanced her from her siblings.
In May, Tiffany graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a double major in sociology and urban studies.
Trump once boasted that his youngest daughter gets “all A’s”. In 2014, when she was 17 years old, Tiffany released a single called Like a Bird. She also landed a coveted Vogue internship (with a little help from her half-sister, fashionista Ivanka) and made her runway debut earlier this year during New York Fashion Week.
On Tuesday night, the pressure was on for both Tiffany and Donald Trump Jr, who spoke after his sister, to present a united front on behalf of the Trump family after the controversy surrounding Melania’s speech on Monday night.
Trump’s campaign was dragged over the coals after his third wife addressed the convention — and the world — and it quickly emerged that parts of her speech appeared to have been “borrowed” from Michelle Obama’s convention speech in 2008.
And Tiffany didn’t disappoint, ending as confidently and as convincingly as she began, she painted a warm, loving picture of her father, using all the right buzz words.
“Natural charm, no facade,” she said, adding that she proudly introduces her friends to a man who is “so friendly, so considerate so funny and so real”.
“I have admired my father all of my life and I love him with all of my heart. God bless you and thank you.”
