Dog kills one-year-old who got too close to food bowl

A baby who just celebrated her first birthday has been killed by her family dog after coming too close to its food bowl, causing it to attack.

A one-year-old baby was killed by her dog after she got too close to its food bowl, loved ones said.

A’myrikal Hull, from the US state of Illinois, was attacked by the female pocket bully – an American pitbull and patterdale terrier mix – when she went near it as the animal was eating in Springfield last week, the State Journal-Register reported.

“The baby walked by the dog as she was eating and reached for her food,” family friend Cory Painter told the newspaper.

“This is nothing new. The dog would eat snacks out of the baby’s hand.”

However on March 17, the dog reacted differently and bit her on the head, an act Painter said was “out of character”.

A’myrikal two uncles fought to pry the animal off her, WICS reported.

She was rushed to a local hospital where A’myrikal, who turned one on March 7, later died from her injuries, the outlets reported.

The dog, which had been with the family for about four years, has been taken into custody by animal control.

A’Myrikal and the dog both lived with the toddler’s grandmother and guardian Bobbie Jo Stengel.

Ms Stengel and her daughter Cierra, A’Myrikal’s mother, ae now said to be taking time to mourn their sudden loss.

The little girl’s funeral has been set for March 31.
