A man who made headlines two decades ago as one of Britain’s first gay dads has welcomed a baby girl with his fiance – who used to date his now-grown daughter.

Barrie Drewitt-Barlow, 50, got engaged to daughter Saffron’s ex-boyfriend Scott Hutchinson while on a family holiday in Croatia last month

Saffron, who has a twin brother named Aspen, previously dated bisexual Scott before he fell for her dad.

Now the pair have welcomed their first child together via surrogate, Valentina Willow Drewitt-Barlow.

“Welcome to the world out beautiful daughter – Valentina Willow Drewitt-Barlow,” Barrie wrote on Instagram.

“Our girl is almost a month early but she is perfect. We feel totally blessed. I love you Scott.”

Barrie became a well-known face in the UK when he and ex-partner Tony Drewitt-Barlow hit the headlines in 1999 as the first gay men in the UK to father twins, Saffron and Aspen, born through surrogacy.

More than 20 years later, Barrie has split from Tony and embarked on the relationship with Saffron’s ex-boyfriend.

Despite a 25-year age gap, Barrie and Scott revealed earlier this year they were expecting a little girl in late October.

Barrie and Scott live with Barrie’s ex, Tony, in the same house, previously dubbing the living arrangements as a “very modern family”.

Barrie hit the headlines in 1999 when he and ex-husband Tony became the first British homosexual couple to welcome twins via surrogate.

Scott has also posted about welcoming Valentina to the world, revealing she was born weighing 5lbs 6oz (2.4kg) and describing his life as “complete”.

In August, the pair got engaged in Croatia, Barrie sharing details from the romantic proposal on Instagram showing he’d decked out a boat with red rose petals and candles before popping the question.

Saffron was a part of the celebrations, with photos showing all of them on the lavish trip together.

She previously gave their unusual romance her blessing, saying “as long as they’re happy, I’m not bothered”.

“Scott is one of my best mates and I am happy that he and Daddy can finally feel comfortable enough to talk about their relationship,” Saffron wrote in an Instagram post in December last year.

She went on to claim she had always known her ex-boyfriend was gay and their relationship was to “help him keep his secret by pretending to be his girlfriend”.

Saffron said she and her siblings are totally accepting of their dad’s relationship with Scott, who helps to care for ailing Tony.

“My parents are my best friends and although ‘officially’ they are not together like that anymore they remain the best of friends and care for each other better than any other parents I know,” she wrote.

“My brothers, dad and I are extremely happy for Scott and Daddy who cares day and night for my sick dad.”

Tony and Barrie Drewitt-Barlow were England’s first same-sex couple to be named on a birth certificate as parents.

The pair, originally from Manchester but who now live in Florida, US, are worth a combined $73 million from various business ventures, including a global research company.

After their surrogacy experience with Saffron and Aspen they set up their own surrogacy agency in 2000 and later went on to have son Orlando in 2003 and twins Jasper and Dallas in 2010.

Tony and Barrie don’t know who is the father of any of their five children.

And Scott and Barrie previously said they don’t want to know which one of them is the biological father of Valentina.

“All of our biological connections are about to get even more complicated but we just regard ourselves as a very modern family,” Barrie told The Sun previously.

“As far as we are concerned they are brothers and sisters. What does the biology matter as long as they are loved and have a stable home?

“There are far more dysfunctional households than ours. We are just unconventional, as our kids have three parents who adore them.”
