Shoppers have been left furious after realising a popular money-saving offer at Woolworths was no longer available.

A disgruntled customer took to popular Facebook page Markdown Addicts Australia on Wednesday to vent their frustrations.

“Since when do supermarkets not give out rainchecks,” the angry shopper wrote.

“I just tried to get one for coffee at Woolies and told they no longer give them out.”

Woolworths has not offered rainchecks since 2020, when the pandemic caused supply chain issues around the world.

Items such as pasta, toilet paper and canned goods were almost impossible to get during the early stages of lockdown when people panic bought as the world entered a new era.

The raincheck policy meant that if an item was advertised on special but the item wasn’t in stock when the shopper went in, the next time the customer was in store and the product was in, they could get it at the reduced price.

Other shoppers expressed their annoyance at the policy been done away with.

One said: “I would contact head office, that doesn’t sound right to me.”

Another said: “Yes I don’t like shopping at Woolies now as they never have stock on shelves, don’t offer rainchecks and can’t return items like clothing etc”

“Complain to head office. Don’t take the store’s word for it,” another said.

Others tried to share what they had learned in recent years.

“They stopped doing them during Covid and have no desire to start them up again,” one said.

Another added: “Woolies stopped during Covid and haven’t brought them back in.”

“Supermarkets can’t guarantee the stock will come in anymore because of supply issues so some supermarkets won’t do them anymore,” one added.

A Woolworths spokesperson told news.com.au: “For customers seeking value we have 5000 specials a week in our stores, and we continue to collaborate with our supplier partners to have sufficient stock to meet customer demand for our very popular promotions.”
