Claims ‘fake heiress’ Anna Sorokin has found love in prison

After conning New York’s elite of tens of thousands of dollars, Anna Sorokin has found “love” behind bars according to wild new claims.

A wild rumour has been making the rounds in society circles that Anna Sorokin, known as the “fake heiress” after fooling New York’s elite into believing she was from a wealthy German family, has got married in jail.

According to a NY Post source, the 28-year-old has a “girlfriend” at the jail where she’s currently serving a 12-year sentence after being convicted on multiple counts of grand larceny and theft of services.

“Earlier, prior to leaving (for upstate Albion Correctional Facility) Anna had what she called some sort of girlfriend on Rikers Island,” the source told the publication. “She did say that she had a ‘girlfriend’.”

Though the exact nature of the relationship behind bars was unclear, Sorokin’s lawyer Todd Spodek shot down the claims, telling the outlet it was “false”.

Sorokin was convicted in May of scamming about $US200,000 ($A292,000) from banks and businesses, while also trying to obtain a $US22 million ($A32 million) loan to supposedly start an elite art club and posing as a rich European socialite called “Anna Delvey”.

During her high-profile case, Sorokin had a “meltdown” over her outfit, refusing to enter the courtroom in her tan prison-issued sweatsuit.

She then refused to wear a civilian outfit provided by authorities.

“With all due respect to your client, she seems a bit inordinately concerned about her clothing,” Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Diane Kiesel told defendant Anna Sorokin’s defence lawyer, Todd Spodek at the time.

“This is a trial. She is a defendant in a criminal case. I am sorry if her clothing is not up to her standards, but she’s got to be here.”

Sorokin told her lawyer she believed vindictive staffers at Rikers Island jail were sabotaging her designer ensembles “to interfere with her being able to wear the clothes”.

“The clothes that are there, they are all dirty,” Ms Spodek said. “There are logistics issues with the clothes getting to Rikers.”

Sorokin’s story of deception is so extraordinary, a Netflix series based on the tale is being produced by well known Hollywood producer, Shonda Rhimes. It is due to start shooting this month in New York.

The “fake heiress” was also the subject of book, My Friend Anna, by former Vanity Fair photo editor Rachel DeLoache Williams which revealed the texts that led to her lies unravelling.
