Brittany Higgins and her fiance, David Sharaz, have landed in France to start their new life away from the glare of Australia’s media spotlight.

The couple arrived at Paris’s Charles de Gaulle airport on Tuesday evening, local time, where they were photographed collecting their luggage.

Ms Higgins and Mr Sharaz were both clad entirely in black - a stark contrast from their outfits when they flew out of Sydney dressed pointedly in suffragette white.

“No matter how far or how wide I roam, I will still call Australia home,” Ms Higgins wrote on Instagram from Singapore after landing for her connecting flight.

She confirmed she would be taking her dog, a cavoodle called Kingston, with her.

“He’s the little love of my life. Couldn’t be without him,” she said.

The couple are moving to a property in the small town Lunas, in southern France, which is a six-hour train ride from Paris and a four-hour ride from Barcelona, in Spain.

The town has a population of just 650 people, and is part of a collection of small villages known as the “pays des mont et des sources”, which translates, in English, to the “land of mountains and springs”.

For the past year, Ms Higgins and Mr Sharaz had been renting a duplex in Palm Beach on the Gold Coast while exploring their options to resettle in Europe. In the meantime, Ms Higgins travelled to Geneva, Paris, London and the Maldives.

The couple’s departure followed a tumultuous month during which Ms Higgins and both of her parents were called as witnesses in a high profile defamation trial, lodged by Bruce Lehrmann, against Channel Ten and broadcaster Lisa Wilkinson.

Mr Lehrmann has denied sexually assaulting Ms Higgins, and pleaded not guilty before a criminal trial was aborted following an allegation of juror misconduct.

Ms Higgins, who was awarded a $2.4 million compensation payout by the Albanese government, is planning on studying and learning the French language as she settles in, having bought her first home.

In recent months, Mr Sharaz posted on a public Facebook group that the couple were looking for a gardener and a French tutor.

“Hello, I’m looking for someone to do some gardening for us over the next couple of months. Perhaps once or twice a fortnight. We’re in Lunas,’’ he wrote on October 2.

A month later, on November 5, Mr Sharaz asked whether anyone could recommend a language tutor.

“Hello! I’m hoping to start to learn the language and while my plan of using French movies with subtitles might work over a decade, I’m looking to speed it up!’’ he wrote.

“Does anyone know any good French tutors?”
