The mother of a bride killed leaving her wedding reception by an alleged drunk driver has revealed her daughter’s heartbreaking final words.

Samantha Hutchinson and her husband Aric Hutchinson were leaving their South Carolina nuptials in a golf cart when they were rear-ended by an alleged drunk driver at around 10pm on Friday.

The cart was reportedly thrown over 90 metres and flipped several times after the impact.

The 34-year-old newlywed was found not breathing and with no pulse and was declared dead at the scene, while Aric is recovering in hospital from multiple broken bones and a brain injury. Two other family members, also on the cart, are also in hospital with severe injuries.

The driver of the rental car that ploughed into the cart, Jamie Lee Komoroski, has been charged with three counts of driving under the influence causing death and reckless vehicular homicide. Authorities said the 25-year-old was driving at 104km/h and only hit the brakes right before the collision.

Ms Komoroski told police she had downed a tequila shot and one beer an hour before the wreck, but refused to take a field sobriety test in its aftermath. A warrant was issued for a blood test and its results are pending.

Speaking to WCIV, Samantha’s mother Lisa Miller said that “on the beginning of the golf car ride, [Samantha] said, ‘I wish this night could go on forever.’”

“The best night of her life,” Ms Miller went on.

A touching photo of the happy couple leaving the party showed them clutching hands under a stream of sparklers.

Ms Miller said she doesn’t know “what the distraction was” that caused the accident, but Ms Komoroski “literally ran into my daughter going 65 miles an hour”.

“Sammie and Aric were on the back of the golf cart and so she basically just whammed into my child.”

“That person made a careless mistake. And it’s not a mistake. It is a life-changing event,” Samantha’s sister, Mandi Jenkins, told WCIV.

“I never thought it would happen to us and to my beautiful sister, your beautiful daughter and all the 150 people that were there.”

In a separate interview with Charleston’s WBCD-TV, Ms Jenkins said she’d “never seen my sister look so beautiful and so happy”.

She said her sister and new brother-in-law left their reception a little before 10pm to go back to their Airbnb.

“And the sirens started. And the sirens kept going and the sirens didn’t stop. My mum said, ‘Something happened to Sam’, not knowing anything,” she told the network.

Once Ms Jenkins and her mother were alerted to what had happened, they rushed to the scene.

“It was so dark, but it was so light because of all of the police. I can’t take it out of my brain,” she said.

“And my mum and I ran holding hands. No shoes, no bra, no nothing, just screaming, ‘Sammy!’.

“Thirty-four, wants to be a mum. And she can’t. My sister, a daughter, a wife, died in her wedding dress because someone made a terrible decision to get in the car.”

On a GoFundMe page set up to help cover unexpected medical costs, Aric’s mother, Annette Hutchinson, revealed heartbreaking details of the tragedy.

“Aric lost the love of his life when my new daughter-in-law ‘Sam’ was tragically killed by a drunk driver moments after the picture above [was taken] while leaving her wedding reception on April 28th,” Ms Hutchinson wrote.

She went on to detail the devastating moment a medical professional handed her Aric’s wedding ring “in a plastic bag at the hospital, five hours after Sam placed it on his finger and they read each other their vows”.

Samantha’s employer, XenTegra, an international IT provider, shared news of her death on LinkedIn, noting she was an “integral member” of its team.

“She carried a light about her, one that shined so brightly upon everyone with whom she interacted. Simply put, Samantha brought an abundance of joy and laughter to the workplace,” the company wrote, noting she was a dedicated and detail-oriented worker who went above and beyond.

“But beyond her professional accomplishments, Samantha was a wonderful person,” the company wrote. “In the last several months, our team was able to join in her excitement as she shared photos and intricate details about her upcoming wedding.

“We will forever remember Samantha’s smile, her laughter, and her dedication to her work, friends and family.
