Aussie retailer’s embarrassing ad blunder goes viral on TikTok
A Melbourne women has shared a TikTok of a popular clothing store’s embarrassing advertising blunder – which the brand later fixed.
Australian retailer Cotton On has been mocked in a viral clip for its embarrassing advertising blunder.
Emma Cooper, a customer from Melbourne, shared a TikTok pointing out the retailer had spelt the trendy version of ‘season’ wrong in its latest advertising campaign.
With winter now approaching, the popular chain had erected a shopfront billboard advertising next season’s looks.
However, instead of it saying “It’s knits szn”, it read, “It’s knits snz”.
“This TikTok is for Cotton On, if you’re not Cotton On keep scrolling,” Emma began the clip.
“Hi Cotton On, babes, you know I love you. Just a quick question, are you aware you spelt ‘season’ wrong? It’s not ‘snz’.
“Whoever is on your advertising team, I would have a quick chat with them tomorrow morning. That’s all just wanted to let you know. Good night.”
Footage then pans to a photo of a model posing in a khaki skivvy and cream-coloured coat alongside the bold, green lettering, “It’s knits snz.”
Emily’s post has since gone viral, with others also commenting they too noticed the blunder.
“Saw this on my way to work this morning and thought my brain was broken but I’m glad you’ve seen it as well,” one woman wrote.
“I actually peed myself laughing when I saw it in person @COTTON ON please respond,” another viewer added.
A couple of Cotton On employees also commented saying they too didn’t notice it.
“I work at Cotton On and I did not notice this,” a staffer wrote.
“This is so funny. I work at Cotton On. I’m gonna check my store for this tomorrow,” another added.
Some claimed the retailer did it “on purpose”.
“Wouldn’t surprise me if they’ve done this on purpose. People see it and talk about it. I mean you’ve given them 48,000 views of free advertising,” one viewer pointed out.
In a follow-up video, Emma revealed the clothing store had “fixed” the mistake.
“I saw them changing it yesterday,” she said.
