Amber Harrison responds to Dave Hughes’ Logies joke
ONE particularly edgy joke by Logies host Dave Hughes had Offspring stars Asher Keddie and Kat Stewart squirming in their seats.
DAVE HUGHES took no prisoners when he hosted the Logie Awards on Sunday evening.
The comedian skewered everyone from Karl Stefanovic to Grant Denyer and Grant Hackett, in an opening speech that was met with gasps and laughs alike.
One of the biggest targets that Hughes took on was Seven CEO Tim Worner.
Worner made headlines late last year when explicit text messages that he sent to former employee Amber Harrison were leaked.
The network went into damage control after the former executive assistant launched a media offensive against the married father of four, sharing sordid details of the pair’s two-year affair.
Hughes sneaked a jab at Worner in at the end of a joke that started with star of The Wrong Girl and Love Child Jessica Marais.
Hughes appeared to mistakenly attribute The Wrong Girl to Channel Seven rather than Channel 10, but it quickly became clear it was entirely intentional.
“[Jessica] is up for two shows. She is up for Channel Nine’s Love Child and Channel Seven’s The Wrong Girl. Oh, Channel Ten, sorry. No, sorry. Channel Ten, sorry. Channel Seven were working on a pilot of The Wrong Girl, that was starring their CEO Tim Worner, and ... That was more a reality show,” he said as the crowd gasped.
“He picked the wrong girl to mess with. It was going really well, but they thought it was too expensive and they tried to cancel it.”
Knowing that he had pushed the envelope, Hughes ended with “I’ve never worked on Channel Seven and I probably never will!”
As the camera panned around the room, many celebs — Asher Keddie included — were seen looking uncomfortable.
But someone who did enjoy the joke was Amber Harrison, who was quick to tweet:
Hey @DHughesy good luck tonight. You can't be slapped with suppression order for taking the piss but if you need a lawyer borrow one of mine

The wrong girl to mess with. I'll own that. Thanks #TVWEEKLogies

Another moment that caused some controversy was Hughes’ joke about Grant Hackett.
“Ah, Grant Hackett … ‘I’m going to rehab again’, well, listen this time,” he said.
“I love Grant Hackett, he’s a great Australian but he’s being a bit whingey. He put a selfie of himself with a black eye and said ‘Look what my brother did’ but that’s what brothers do Grant, you’re a d**k and then they give you a clip.
“Look on the bright side, you could have been Kim Jong-un’s brother. That guy is not whingeing on Instagram.”
The backlash on Twitter to this gag was almost instant:
did someone vett Dave Hughes monologue and at no point did someone say "probably don't mock the athlete who had a breakdown?" #TVWEEKLogies

How insulting, unfunny and painful was Dave Hughes? Joking about mental health and Grant Hackett was the pits. ðµð¢ #LOGIES #LogieAwards
