Aldi shoppers’ fury over sharp surprise in feather pillows

A Perth couple have been left fuming after claiming they bought a pair of $20 duck feather pillows that proved to be a nightmare.

Shoppers have taken aim at Aldi over an alleged issue with a set of duck down pillows.

Duck pillows are often more expensive as the firmness provide good head, neck and back support.

But a two pack recently sold by the German retailer as part of its Special Buys promotions were on offer for $19.99.

However, one couple in Perth, Western Australia, claim the Aldi pillows proved to be a nightmare purchase as the feathers poked through the outer fabric and felt “like thousands of hypodermic needles”.

“My partner and I felt needles in our arms and hand,” the man told Perth Now.

“The pointy end of the feathers had not been removed from the feathers when manufacturing and all the duck feathers were sticking out of the pillow like thousands of hypodermic needles.”

It’s not unusual for feather pillows or quilts to have the quills – the ends of the feathers – poke through the fabric.

But the shopper said “hundreds” of feathers were sticking out of the pillows’ lining, which interrupted their sleep and caused pain, adding he took them back to his local store.

The man said he was offered a refund, but he declined, saying he believed it was a safety concern and it was likely he wasn’t the only one impacted.

“I am sure this is not just in the two pillows I bought,” he said.

Ways to remedy this include having a pillow or quilt protector, spot cleaning your item, regular fluffing and patching up any holes.

However, the Perth couple aren’t the only ones to complain.

In a separate Facebook post, another couple who purchased the pillows in 2020 said: “We got one and the spiked end of the feather started sticking out all over.

“I put in [the] dryer as recommended to fluff up but it still spikes.”

Not everyone agreed with the complaints, however, with one happy Aldi customer saying they purchased the pillows every year.

News.com.au understands anyone with an issue with an Aldi product can return the item to the store for a full refund.
