An African man has accused an Adelaide nightclub of racially profiling him and his friends by refusing them entry based on their skin colour.

Luckson Guvamatanga, who is originally from Zimbabwe, moved to Australia two months ago after living in England for nearly two decades.

Mr Guvamatanga claims he was waiting in line to enter The Signature Lounge club on Hindley St just before midnight on Saturday when the incident occurred.

“I have lived in England for 17 years and not once did I experience racism. However been in Australia 2 months and was racially profiled and turned away from The Signature Lounge in Hindley Street,” he wrote on the Adelaide Hospitality Crew Facebook page.

“Was with 2 of my mates also black, weren’t drunk or rowdy, just standing in the queue like anybody else only to get to the door to be told that management had told the door staff not to let us in.”

Mr Guvamatanga said the staff inside had seen him and his friends on CCTV and made the decision not to allow them to enter.

He claimed “everyone else was allowed in” and added he was “disgusted” by the incident.

The father-of-two later told the The Advertiser that a group of “rowdy” white males were let into the club right after he was told to leave.

He alleged another staff member also came outside to explain to them that “people like you tend to cause trouble”.

Mr Guvamatanga said he and his friends decided to walk off and not try and fight the decision, but the incident had left him feeling “embarrassed”.

After Mr Guvamatanga posted about his experience on Facebook, club representative Shaine Iglesias reached out to apologise, The Advertiser reported.

“We sincerely apologise about your bad experience,” Mr Iglesias said.

“I would like to personally look after you and your friends … no one should be able to have felt that kind of way.”

He reportedly added that the “majority of our crowd is of Aboriginal heritage”.
