Addison Rae Jimmy Fallon segment accused of ‘stealing’ black entertainers’ TikTok dances
Addison Rae, 20, has been accused of “stealing” from black creators after performing a series of TikTok dances on Jimmy Fallon’s show.
She’s one of TikTok’s highest-earning stars, reportedly taking home $6.5 million after shooting to fame performing dance routines.
But Addison Rae has been accused of “stealing from Black entertainers” after performing a series of “TikTok dances” during a stint on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon March 26.
During the segment, the 20-year-old performed eight mini routines — all of which are dances that have gone viral on the social media platform, including Jason Derulo’s Savage Love and Megan Thee Stallion’s Savage.
Following the TikTok star’s appearance, many were quick to point out the social media star wasn’t the brains behind the popular choreography, calling out the show for not crediting the creators, many of whom are black.

A video of the segment shared by Fallon was quickly bombarded with criticism on Twitter as many asked why the host didn’t invite the “original Black creators” to show them.
“Stealing from black entertainers and having white “creators” regurgitate it to the masses is American history 101,” one said.
“Why didn’t you invite the original Black creators to show you and highlight them?” another wrote.
“These moves/dances were made by black ppl yet she’s the one getting the recognition and money,” someone else added.
Others called on Fallon and Addison to “do better” labelling the segment “disrespectful”.
Itâs amazing how Black people created all of those trending moments for social media and @jimmyfallon decides to honor this by bringing someone white to display it. Disrespectful. Do better.

All of the people who have astronomical talent and who have truly worked hard and deserve to be front and center and you get this girl on? Who is famous for doing what? Such a sad world we live in
â Anne (@feather_oar) March 27, 2021
So you invite a white girl to do these dances instead of the creators. Cool. Remember all the ally talk you were talking about? It starts with this type of stuff. DO BETTER.

Not everyone agreed the performance was in “poor taste” with some stating the show had a full list of creators on the YouTube video.
Others stressed it would be difficult to get all the original creators into the studio to perform the eight routines.

If I were to look up these dance names on #TikTok, wouldn't it take me to the videos made by each of the dance creators?

Because if so that IS tremendous exposure.
I don't know who Addison Rae is, but it's cool that she chose to perform the choreographers' dances & did it well.
Okay I hate TikTok I literally canât stand it but itâs boarder line ridiculous to get this aggressive over what dances people dance too. Hell I even play guitar a lot rock, grunge and blues most of their musical roots is based African American culture.

Neither Addison nor Fallon have responded to the backlash, but Addison did share a cryptic tweet on Monday, writing: “today is a new day!! choose kindness!! life is short!! tomorrow isn’t promised!!”
