Abbie Chatfield ‘pretty scared’ over new anti-vax threats

After clapping back at Covid vaccine misinformation for months, Abbie Chatfield is facing a scary new wave of abuse.

Abbie Chatfield has opened up about the “scary” way anti-vaxxers are now trolling her as she continues to speak out about false claims circulating on social media about the coronavirus vaccine.

Abbie, who rose to fame after appearing on The Bachelor in 2019 and is now a successful influencer and podcaster, has used her online platform to promote Covid vaccinations since the Sydney outbreak began.

But speaking out has come at a cost, with the 26-year-old telling HIT Queensland’s breakfast with Cliffo & Gabi that the trolling she receives has become more intense – and terrifying.

Abbie has had “two years” of trolling since her appearance on The Bachelor, so receiving mean messages up until recently had been “nothing new”.

“This new wave of anti-vaxxer trolls, they’re a special breed,” she said.

“I get death threats a lot … voice note death threats are the worst. The text ones are fine but the voice notes are scary.”

Abbie said the audio death threats have left her “pretty scared” and she will now “double check my locks at night”.

“The cops can’t do anything, so you just have to put it into a folder,” she said. “I just screen record it just in case something happens to me they’ll know who did it.”

Last month, Abbie faced a barrage of abuse in response to a TikTok she made showing the outfits she planned to wear when travel was allowed for those who are fully vaccinated.

“I just want to go for a holiday with my friends to Byron. I’m thinking down at the Beach Hotel, me having a drink, f***ing random people because I can,” she said in the video.

“What do you guys think about me travelling regionally in this outfit unlike the unvaccinated people?”

Abbie revealed she had copped a vicious reaction from anti-vaxxers which included death threats.

The influencer has also used her podcast to clap back at those who claim her anti-vaxxer stance saw her act like a “mean girl” towards those who had a different view from her, saying it was “sexist and ridiculous”.

“During The Bachelor people would call me the mean girl because I was sexual because they had this one-dimensional idea of a woman,” she said.

“And now they call me ‘mean girl’ because I’m outspoken and I think this idea of a mean girl is so interesting because I don’t think I’ve ever been mean to anyone.

“I think I’ve called people out when they’ve literally threatened my life or threaten me or when they say silly things, sorry I’m going to say you’re being silly.”
